Department Summary
Teach North Texas is UNT's innovative math and science secondary level teacher preparation program. Modeled after the very successful UTeach program at the University of Texas in Austin, TNT's goal is to address the critical shortage of qualified teachers within these high-needs fields. Students gain hands-on teaching experience while learning effective classroom teaching techniques.
Position Overview
The Adjunct Assistant facilitates the development of future educators by providing on-site coaching and support within assigned school districts for Teach North Texas in early field experience courses. Key duties include documenting candidate performance on key teaching skills and high-yield instructional strategies and offering targeted feedback to guide growth as a future educator. The Adjunct Assistant ensures program alignment and communicates issues or concerns to the TNT course instructor and the TNT field experience office. The minimum number of field observations required for each semester is twenty.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have a valid Texas Secondary (or all level) Teacher Certification, a minimum of a masters degree at the time of appointment and at least three years of secondary public school teaching experience in the field(s) of mathematics, or the sciences . Required qualifications include an undergraduate science, mathematics or computer science degree or a minimum of 18 graduate content hours in a science, mathematics or computer science discipline. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and experience working with preservice and/or inservice teachers.
Preferred Qualifications
Desired qualifications include supervision of student teaching, experience as an instructional coach, and/or college teaching experience. Candidates with mathematics and/or computer science backgrounds are preferred, however candidates with a science background will be considered. Candidates with experience in Project Based Learning and with embedded science and mathematics programs such as UTeach/TNT are also preferred. However, all mathematics and science candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered.
