The Department of Personalized Health and Well-Being is dedicated to advancing health and wellness through lifestyle medicine. The Master of Science in Lifestyle Health Sciences and Coaching (MSLS) program equips students with evidence-based strategies to improve patient outcomes. The Health Care Clinician Track, a specialized program within the department, integrates lifestyle medicine into clinical practice, enabling professionals to address the root causes of chronic disease and enhance long-term well-being.
As the first graduate program in Texas to combine Lifestyle Medicine with Wellness Coaching, the department emphasizes a holistic approach to health education. Faculty and staff support innovative coursework, hands-on training, and a micro credential in lifestyle medicine, preparing students for careers in the rapidly growing field of preventive care.
Position Overview
This adjunct faculty position plays a key role in preparing students to navigate the complexities of the U.S. healthcare system and implement effective worksite wellness programs. Delivered in an online format, this course provides an interprofessional perspective on integrating the coaching model into clinical, community, business, and personal practice settings. The adjunct faculty member will engage students through virtual lectures, discussions, case studies, and applied learning experiences, emphasizing evidence-based strategies for improving health outcomes across various professional environments. Collaboration with faculty and industry partners ensures that course content aligns with current trends, policies, and best practices in healthcare and wellness programming. In addition to teaching, the adjunct faculty member will assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and foster an inclusive, supportive online learning environment. The ideal candidate has expertise in healthcare systems, worksite wellness, or health coaching, along with experience in online teaching and a commitment to equipping students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to drive meaningful change in diverse settings.
This is a remote adjunct position that will involve teaching two eight-week terms throughout the year. The schedule is flexible, but you will be expected to engage with students and provide course materials, assignments, and feedback according to the course timeline. As the position is remote, there are no on-campus requirements or travel expectations. Expected hours will vary based on course demands, per term for course preparation, teaching, grading, and student engagement, depending on class size and specific course content. In addition to teaching, you will be required to attend two program meetings during each term and participate in optional team check-ins to collaborate with colleagues and ensure alignment with program goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Proven experience in teaching at the higher education level, demonstrating strong instructional and student engagement skills. Expertise in designing and delivering distance education courses, utilizing effective online teaching strategies and learning management systems. A Master’s degree in Health Promotion, Health Education, Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Entrepreneurship, Healthcare Innovation, Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Healthcare Management, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of the U.S. healthcare system, including structure, policies, and key stakeholders.
- Knowledge of worksite wellness program development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Familiarity with health behavior change models and how they apply in clinical, community, and business settings.
- Understanding of interprofessional collaboration and how coaching models integrate into healthcare and wellness programs.
- Awareness of current trends, research, and best practices in healthcare delivery, workplace wellness, and health coaching.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and online education strategies.
Skills:
- Effective online teaching skills, including the ability to create engaging and interactive virtual learning experiences.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex healthcare and wellness concepts clearly.
- Assessment and feedback skills to evaluate student progress and provide constructive guidance. Course development and instructional design experience for online learning platforms (preferred).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to balance course instruction, student support, and grading.
Abilities:
- Ability to engage and motivate students in a fully online learning environment.
- Capacity to create an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere for diverse student populations. Ability to integrate real-world examples and case studies to enhance student learning.
- Ability to facilitate meaningful discussions and case-based learning in an online setting.

Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in a related field.
Job Duties:
- Support curriculum planning, development and implementation efforts for an innovative degree program in alignment with the Departmental, School and Institutional vision.
- Responsible for teaching and advising graduate students in an online course (LHLT 5310).
- Collaborate with interprofessional faculty, staff, and students.
- Completion of UNTHSC compliance training and Distance Education committee training and requirements.
