Department Summary
The Division of Music History, Theory, and Ethnomusicology is a vibrant contributor to the College of Music, the University of North Texas, and the surrounding community. We maintain a full range of academic programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Our Ph.D. is more than fifty years old and was the first doctoral program established at the University of North Texas. Today more than sixty students are enrolled in our graduate programs. As a hub of academic and musical activity, our division fosters a wide range of projects and initiatives. Our faculty members have been recognized with significant awards for outstanding teaching, research, and service.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Overview
The Department of Music History, Theory, and Ethnomusicology seeks qualified individuals for its adjunct Instructor pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for the Fall 20254, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses depend on the department’s teaching needs.
This year, teaching needs may include: MUMH and MUET courses as needed. As well as MUEN 2621/5621.504 (Chinese Ensemble).
Minimum Qualifications
A master's degree in the discipline or a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours directly related to the assigned courses(s).
Preferred Qualifications
Terminal degree in music-related discipline and relevant experience in assigned courses.
