The University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design Department of Studio Art Sculpture program fosters traditional, experimental, and transdisciplinary approaches to contemporary sculpture through rigorous studio practice, critical inquiry, and professional development. Students develop technical expertise in areas such as woodworking, welding, metal fabrication, casting, digital fabrication, installation, and public art while cultivating an individual creative voice within a nationally recognized arts environment.
Position Overview
Sculpture faculty Alicia Eggert seeks temporary studio assistant and advanced studio assistant to support faculty research, maintain safe and efficient studio operations, and assist with the preparation of materials, equipment, and facilities for the creation of new sculptural work. The position requires strong technical knowledge of sculptural processes—including woodworking, welding, metal fabrication, casting, digital fabrication, and installation—as well as the ability to work independently, communicate professionally, and contribute to a collaborative and dynamic studio environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in a sculpture or fabrication facility.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of sculpture studio tools, equipment, and fabrication processes, including woodworking, metalworking, welding, casting, and installation methods
Ability to safely operate and maintain shop equipment while following all studio safety protocols
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining shared workspaces, inventory, and materials
Ability to assist faculty and students with technical problem-solving and project preparation
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced studio environment
Capacity to lift, move, and transport heavy materials and equipment as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of digital fabrication tools and processes preferred (e.g., CNC, laser cutting, 3D printing)

Job Duties
- The position will support a studio art faculty member with advanced fabrication processes, assembly, and preparation of new artworks for exhibition.
Physical Requirements
Operating machinery and/or power tools.
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
Lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds.
Environmental Hazards
Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
Exposure to moving mechanical parts or vibration.
Noisy environments.
