Department Summary

The University of North Texas competes as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the American Conference. North Texas’ athletic programs are classified as NCAA Division I, the largest and highest division among all colleges and universities. The 46,000 square-foot Athletic Center located off South Bonnie Brae Street is the centerpiece of North Texas athletics. Athletics strives to conduct a competitive athletics program that promotes faculty, staff, student and community affiliation and participation with the North Texas Athletics. Provide facilities which attract the highest level of talent and allow student-athletes to perform at the highest level in practice and during competition.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Senior Associate AD for Leadership & Culture Development, the Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Development will contribute to the mission and vision around holistic support of Mean Green student-athletes. This position is responsible for supervising and managing educational programs/events related to name, image, and likeness, as well as oversee day-to-day components of community service initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in in related field and two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience advising, counseling, or related experience.
• Demonstrated successful experience with program development and implementation.
• Detail oriented with prior project management experience.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences.
• Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations specific to the role.
• Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters Degree.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties

  • Serve as the primary advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), facilitating leadership development, planning/execution of internal initiatives, and conference initiatives. Develop relationships and partnerships with campus and community organizations/non-profits to increase presence in the local and surrounding areas.
  • Organize and implement education and resources that aid student-athletes in developing life skills, including but not limited to: personal branding, social media, financial literacy. Collaborate with institutional NIL department as it relates to education, opportunities, and student-athlete strategic support in name, image, and likeness.
  • Actively engage Mean Green letterwinners through the Mean Green For Life network, mentorship program, and networking opportunities. Collaborate with the Director of the Letterwinners Association to strategically create connection between current and former Mean Green student-athletes.
  • Teach the freshman transition course in the fall, spring, and summer semester to include organization of curriculum and guest presenters, facilitation of information, grading assignments, etc. Collaborate with Athletic Academic Services to incorporate aspects of the Bridge Program to support student-athletes acclimation to college. 
  • Help develop, launch, and manage a student-athlete leadership development program with curriculum to enhance student-athletes' natural skills and mobilize their influence. 
  • Design, edit and prepare Student-Athlete Development informational and promotional materials for both internal and external constituents. Other duties assigned by supervisor or Athletics leadership that supports the department mission of Building Champions and Preparing Leaders, including but not limited to recruiting presentations for prospective student-athletes.

8:00am-5:00pm Monday thru Friday with some evenings and weekend events.
