HSC Health is the academic clinical practice of the Health Science Center, where quality care meets quality education.
HSC Health primary and multispecialty care offices are located on the HSC, Denton and Dallas UNT System campuses, focusing on improving health outcomes to build healthier communities. Care includes mobile health initiatives and extends to hospitals, surgery centers, long-term/continuing care centers, and in-home care.
HSC Health’s interprofessional teams work collaboratively to achieve an optimized treatment plan tailored to the individual patient. Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, specialized technicians, nurses and more work together while intentionally integrating healthcare students, residents, and fellows to deliver care to our community.
Position Overview
The Advanced Practice Professional (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will be integral in delivering comprehensive cardiovascular care to a diverse patient population within our outpatient clinic.
Collaborating closely with our team of board-certified cardiologists and physicians, as well as nurses and medical assistants, the APP will actively contribute to providing high-quality, evidence-based care with a strong focus on the prevention, accurate diagnosis, and effective management of a broad spectrum of cardiac conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree and five (5) years related experience, must have graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant program, or an accredited Graduate Nursing Program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Ability to practice medicine within the scope of license, training and credentials
* Ability to care for a diverse patient population
Preferred Qualifications
* Prior cardiology experience
* Knowledge of managing patients in an outpatient setting, including efficient workflow and resource utilization
Required License/Registration/Certifications
* Ability to obtain a Texas Physician Assistant License, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License, and/or Nurse Practitioner License
Job Duties:
- Comprehensive understanding of a wide range of cardiac conditions * Knowledge of cardiovascular physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology. * Understanding of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and strategies for risk modification. * Familiarity with common cardiac diagnostic tests (EKG, echocardiogram, stress testing, Holter monitoring, cardiac catheterization reports) and their interpretation.
- Knowledge of cardiovascular medications, including their indications, contraindications, dosages, side effects, and interactions.
- Understanding of patient education principles and strategies for promoting adherence to treatment plans in the ambulatory setting.
- Proficient in conducting comprehensive cardiovascular-focused history and physical examinations. * Ability to synthesize information from patient history, physical exam, and diagnostic tests to formulate accurate diagnoses and differential diagnoses.
