Department Summary

Facilities Management has a mission to make the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth a place where the facilities and grounds are aesthetically pleasing, clean, well maintained, and energy-efficient. We offer a working environment that promotes teamwork and professionalism. Facilities Management provides responsive, friendly, and efficient customer support to appropriately support the institutional mission.

Position Overview

The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Custodian to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Disinfecting, sanitizing and stocking rest rooms. Cleaning office areas. Vacuuming. Trash removal. Recycling removal. Cleaning public area glass, windows, entrance doors, elevators. Cleaning assigned laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications

There are no minimum education or experience requirements. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of standard tools and equipment of the profession.
  • Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the Internet.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Six months experience in custodial services. Clear DMV required if operating a State Vehicle. Be able to understand chemical usage and application. Be able to use a back pack vacuum or upright vacuum. Be able to perform the job mechanics including standing, kneeling, pushing and reaching.

Job Duties

  • Sweep, scrub, mop, wash, polish and wax concrete, linoleum, tile and wood floors; vacuum carpets. 
  • Dust, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork. 
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles. 
  • Wash and clean windows, walls and chalkboards 
  • Clean and maintain restrooms, shower and locker rooms, cafeterias, offices and related facilities
  • Sweep sidewalks, pick up papers and clean drinking fountains
  • Polish metal work. - (Essential)
  • Replenish supplies and fill paper and soap dispensers. 
  • Operate equipment such as vacuums and floor cleaning/polishing machines. 
  • Deliver supplies and equipment from one campus location to another. 
  • Turn out lights, lock doors and windows to ensure security of the buildings and restricted areas. 
  • Report sanitary and safety hazards and the need for repairs to supervisor, 

Physical Requirements

  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.

Environmental Hazards

  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

Work Schedule

Monday thru Friday 4:30PM - 1:00AM Some weekends/holidays required as needed.
