Department Summary
The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is located within Research Administration and the Division of Research. The ORC works with offices responsible for specific components of research compliance and university research oversight committees such as the Institutional Review Board, Institutional Biosafety, Institutional Animal Care and Use, Research Conflict of Interest committees and the Export Control Office to ensure the responsible conduct of research and compliance with university policies and federal regulations related to research activity. The office oversees development and implementation of policies, procedures, and educational activities which satisfy university policies, state, and federal regulations governing the conduct of research. The ORC is responsible for monitoring regulatory updates and making recommendations to the university to ensure compliance.
Position Overview
The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (HSC) is seeking to hire an IACUC Administrator to join our team. The IACUC Administrator provides administrative support for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to support compliance of the animal care and use program in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. This position will report directly to the Executive Director for the Office of Research Compliance, however will work closely with the Sr. IACUC Administrator. The incumbent will also be expected to interact with other areas of Research Compliance, as well as the Division of Research & Innovation (DRI), as needed and directed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and four (4) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of appropriate federal regulations and regulatory agencies with regard to animal research (e.g., PHS, USDA, NIH/OLAW);
- Skill set in working in electronic databases/submission systems, web sites/web pages, and on-line outreach and training tools;
- Well-developed organizational and analytical skills; outstanding attention to detail; objective observer.
- Exceptionally strong written, verbal, and presentation skills; education and training experience in higher education preferred.
- High level of maturity, diplomacy, integrity and strict confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPIA or LATG certification preferred (incumbent should obtain this within 3 years)
- Experience with regulatory compliance (in various areas), experience in animal research or IACUC role, or interest or background in animal care.
- Bachelor’s degree in animal science or any health science field.
- Prior experience with critical thinking, project management, document management and client interactions.
- Positive attitude toward work and co-workers.
- Be comfortable communicating with all levels of management and employees.
- Proficient multi-tasker, with strong communication skills and flexibility in shifting priorities when needed.

Job Duties:
- Assist Sr. IACUC Administrator and the ORC Executive Director with IACUC operations, which includes the interpretation and application of federal, state, and local laws and regulations relevant to use of animals in research. This position will work directly with researchers/investigators, and will also work closely with the IACUC (Chair and members), laboratory animal personnel, as well as other ORC and DRI staff.
- Support and manage workflow for routine IACUC processes, such as: conducting grant congruence checks, completing reviews of animal care and use research protocols and related documents, maintaining all IACUC procedures, policies, files and trainings records, keeping the IACUC website updated, etc.
- Coordinate all meeting activities, including preparing IACUC meeting agendas, follow-up correspondence, minutes, and attend all scheduled meetings.
- Assist Sr. IACUC Administrator, IACUC Chair, and Attending Veterinarian in the preparation of AAALAC, USDA, and OLAW report documents.
- Coordinate scheduling of and perform post-approval monitoring audits and Semi-Annual Inspections.
- Prepare educational materials and assist in the planning, preparation and implementation of IACUC-related trainings and seminars for the HSC animal research community (for both researchers and IACUC members).
