Position Overview

The Instructional Design Consultant within the Division of Strategic Educational Alliances serves as a strategic learning partner supporting the development of innovative professional, workforce, executive, and industry-aligned programs. As part of the university’s commitment to workforce-ready solutions, this position collaborates with subject matter experts and stakeholders to create engaging, accessible, and impactful learning experiences that support learner success, workforce readiness, and organizational objectives. The consultant leads projects through the full learning design lifecycle while promoting quality, innovation, and continuous improvement across a wide portfolio of online and professional learning initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Instructional Design or related field and three years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•Advanced knowledge of learning experience design principles and practices.
•Ability to translate organizational goals and learner needs into effective, outcome-driven learning solutions.
•Ability to consult with subject matter experts, business partners, and stakeholders to identify learning needs and recommend appropriate learning strategies.
•Experience designing and developing engaging learning experiences across online, hybrid, and face-to-face delivery modalities.
•Strong project leadership and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations.
•Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments and manage multiple projects with accelerated timelines.
•Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities while maintaining high-quality outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

•Master's degree in a related field and experience in designing executive, professional, workforce, or continuing education programs.
•Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, collaborate with stakeholders, apply accessibility and quality standards, and utilize learning technologies and emerging tools to create effective learning experiences.
•Experience with learning analytics, continuous improvement, and project management.

Job Duties

  • Service as lead learning experience designer for learning projects, guiding them from concept through implementation. 
  • Partner with subject matter experts, business partners, and stakeholders to identify learning goals, project requirements, and recommend effective learning solutions. 
  • Design and develop impactful learning experiences, assessments, credentialing programs, and supporting resources that advance learner success, workforce development, and organizational goals. 
  • Evaluate learner characteristics, business requirements, accessibility considerations, technical environments, project constraints, and available resources to determine the most effective learning approaches and technologies. 
  • Apply learning design best practices, accessibility standards, quality assurance frameworks, copyright and fair use guidelines, and emerging technologies to enhance learning effectiveness and user experience. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication, maintain project quality standards, support successful implementation, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. 
  • Facilitate project planning activities, monitor timelines, coordinate deliverables, and communicate progress with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
