Department Summary

As part of the Division of Academic Innovation, the Educational Media team provides a comprehensive suite of innovative media services to the UNT Health community. Core areas of support include multimedia production, graphic design, and immersive learning experiences. The team produces high-quality instructional, promotional, and event-based video content; develops game-based learning interactions and gamified 3D/360° environments; and leads holographic media production to enable life like simulation and storytelling. Additionally, the team designs and supports interactive hybrid learning experiences in the X2O OneRoom environment, and provides technical support and administration for Mediasite and Verbit platforms. The Educational Media team maintains a strong commitment to excellent customer service, superior production and design, and forward-thinking approaches that elevate teaching, learning, and engagement across the university.

Position Overview

The Instructional Media Specialist plays a key role in supporting teaching and learning through high-quality media production, instructional technology integration, and faculty partnership. This position provides hands-on guidance and customer service to faculty and staff in planning, recording, and delivering educational content across multiple formats, including studio video, classroom capture, X2O OneRoom sessions, gamified learning modules, and holographic media experiences. Instructional Media Specialists coordinate and operate audiovisual, lighting, and recording equipment; edit and package multimedia assets for instructional use; create visual and graphical elements to enhance learner engagement; and train faculty on effective use of media tools and platforms. They serve as collaborative problem-solvers, ensuring that media solutions are pedagogically sound, technically reliable, and aligned with the instructional goals of the course or program.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency with a wide range of audiovisual systems and production environments, including studio and field recording equipment, lighting, microphones, capture systems, and integrated classroom technologies to support high-quality educational and promotional media.
  • Strong understanding of multimedia production workflows from pre-production through post-production, including scripting, storyboarding, directing, editing, motion graphics, and visual design, with awareness of current industry standards and emerging innovations such as immersive media, gamification, and holographic content.
  • Advanced skills in video and audio editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and comparable tools, with the ability to produce polished instructional and promotional content that enhances learning and engagement.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and consultation abilities, capable of partnering closely with faculty and staff to assess instructional goals, translate needs into media solutions, and provide clear, supportive guidance at all skill levels.
  • Strong project planning and production management skills, including coordinating production schedules, allocating studio and equipment resources, maintaining organized workflows, and ensuring timely delivery of media assets that meet project objectives.
  • Ability to maintain, diagnose, and troubleshoot audiovisual and media production equipment, ensuring reliability and continuity of instructional media services across classrooms, studios, and hybrid/remote learning environments.
  • Skilled training and facilitation capabilities, supporting faculty and staff in adopting audiovisual tools, media platforms, and production techniques through one-on-one support, workshops, and documented instructional resources.
  • Collaborative approach to working with instructional designers, media producers, faculty, staff, and institutional partners, contributing expertise to cross-functional projects that elevate teaching and learning experiences.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction, regularly evaluating media solutions, gathering user feedback, and recommending enhancements that improve service quality, accessibility, and impact.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience operating professional studio and field production equipment, including multi-camera setups, studio lighting systems, audio capture solutions, teleprompters, and live-switching workflows.
  • Proven ability to plan, compose, and execute visually compelling media shoots in both studio and on-location environments, adapting lighting, audio, and framing to support narrative, instructional, or promotional goals.
  • Experience managing, organizing, and maintaining media assets across shared storage and server environments, ensuring proper file structure, version control, archival practices, and project continuity.
  • High proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications (e.g., Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop, and Illustrator), with the ability to produce polished, professional multimedia content that aligns with brand and instructional objectives.
  • Experience working in higher education environments, preferably within health science, clinical training, or medical education settings, with an understanding of academic culture, instructional needs, and faculty collaboration.

Job Duties

  • Provide high-quality video and multimedia production services for educational, instructional, promotional, and event-based content. 
  • Plan, compose, and execute production shoots in studio and on-location environments to meet instructional and communication goals.
  • Edit, mix, and finalize video, audio, and graphics using professional post-production workflows and Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Manage, organize, and archive media assets on shared media servers, Mediasite, and other storage platforms to ensure continuity and retrievability of projects.
  • Create and maintain multimedia materials for faculty and staff professional development, training, and resource libraries. - (Essential)
  • Consult with faculty, staff, and campus partners to assess audiovisual needs and provide recommendations aligned with course objectives and instructional outcomes.
  • Assist faculty and staff in integrating media effectively into courses, ensuring alignment between learning goals, assignments, and media strategy.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and training to faculty and staff on media creation techniques, classroom capture tools, studio workflows, and audiovisual best practices.
  • Maintain, demonstrate, and troubleshoot audiovisual and studio equipment; coordinate repairs; and submit requests for approved equipment purchases.
  • Maintain awareness of current media production standards, accessibility practices, and emerging technologies to inform recommendations and continuous improvement.
  • Propose and implement actions to enhance user experience, customer satisfaction, and service quality.
  • Support and operate X2O OneRoom and other hybrid/immersive learning environments, including session setup, monitoring, and technical support.
  • Assist in the planning, capture, editing, and deployment of holographic media productions, including lighting, camera configuration, and content formatting for holographic display systems.
  • Contribute to the design and development of gamified learning experiences, interactive videos, scenario-based learning modules, and 360°/VR/immersive instructional content.
  • Ensure all produced media meets accessibility and compliance standards, including closed captioning, transcription, and formatting for ADA/Section 508.
  • Provide live event media production support, including camera operation, audio/visual setup, recording, streaming, and real-time troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate and track media project timelines, communicate progress with stakeholders, and ensure deliverables are completed on schedule and to specification.
  • Develop, maintain, and update documentation, workflow guides, equipment instructions, and knowledge resources for consistent studio and production operations.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, academic departments, and IT/AV teams to align media solutions with institutional goals and instructional needs.
  • Participate in unit planning activities, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts within the Division of Academic Innovation. 
  • Develop and deliver faculty development workshops, one-on-one consultations, and training sessions focused on effective media use in teaching and learning.
