Department Summary

Facilities Structural Services strives daily to make sure the students, faculty, and staff have safe and well-maintained spaces. Our mission is to keep the buildings on campus aesthetically pleasing inside and out with our professional crew of maintenance staff. We are responsible for all painting, flooring, and general maintenance for the campus educational and general-use buildings. We also provide all signage for the campus, tables and chairs for events, outside welding repair, office furniture relocation, surplus services, and have full cabinet/carpenter shop onsite. Customer service is our priority, and customer satisfaction is our expectation.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for intermediate skilled craftwork that involves general maintenance work. Duties include installation, maintenance, repair, and service of building systems and requires advanced skills in a primary craft and may require limited competency in a secondary craft.

* Responsible for loading and delivering materials and equipment for the University.
* Delivery of tables/chairs for events.
* Moves, delivers, and arranges furniture and materials for the University.
* Operates commercially rated truck. May also operate pickup truck, forklift, or other light vehicles.
* Operates power hand tools to dissemble furniture and other tasks as needed.
* Performs a variety of semi-skilled and technical tasks, in routine maintenance duties.
* Ensures all equipment is working properly such as dolly, hand truck, and tie downs.
* Load and unload.
* Observes safety and security precautions to work performed.
* All other duties as assigned.
**This position is considered to be essential personnel, and may require working overtime, which could include nights and weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in maintenance/repair or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance task.
* Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance; knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings.
* Ability to use basic shop math applications.
* Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs.
* Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather.
* Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
* Knowledge of proper use for all hand tools.
* Some knowledge of general maintenance and carpentry.
* Stable employment record.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Possession of a valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.

Job Duties:

  • Check work related emails 
  • Complete University trainings in a timely manner. 
  • Input proper information on work request. 
  • Maintain equipment such as convertible hand dollies, 4 wheelers, and panel carts in proper working order. 
  • Inspect the functionality of tables/chairs and maintain clean for events. 
  • Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision. Accepts responsibility for own work and follows through on commitments.

Physical Requirements:

Communicating with others to exchange information.
Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds. Lifting and moving objects up to 100 pounds or more.
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
Operating machinery and/or power tools. Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Environmental Hazards:

Elevated temperatures.
Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
Exposure to moving mechanical parts or vibration. Low temperatures.
Noisy environments.
Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
Small and/or enclosed spaces.
Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.

Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM
