Department Summary

The Institute for Health Disparities (IHD) conducts research, training and community outreach in the areas of minority health, health disparities and workforce variety.
Constituting the IHD are the Texas Center for Health Disparities, National Research Mentoring Network, Texas CEAL Consortium, Variety Training Programs, AIM-AHEAD and the NIMHD Endowment.

Position Overview

The Outreach Specialist will expand communication efforts for the HRSA project by managing newsletters, social media, and announcements that highlight accomplishments and community impact. The role will also monitor analytics to provide data-driven insights to improve messaging. Overall, this position will improve efficiency, enhance communication, and raise the visibility of the HRSA project, while allowing faculty and leadership to focus on their core responsibilities and ensuring our mission is effectively promoted.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related professional field and three (3) years of related experience. A combination of education and relevant experience may be substitute for the educational requirement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, oral, multimedia, and social media communication and dissemination skills.
  • Demonstrate highly organized, with good planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with applicants, employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to work according to schedules and itineraries while also being able to exercise good judgement and remain flexible.
  • Demonstrate discipline and diligence with social media.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and effectively manage multiple assignments and projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of RWHAP service categories.
  • Experienced in Canva or other graphic design platforms.
  • Experienced in Webpage design and maintenance.
  • Subject matter knowledge of HIV/AIDS and mental health.
  • Experience in creating communication and dissemination plans.

Job Duties

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute campus and community outreach events, ensuring alignment with the Institute for Health Disparities mission, goals, and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage event logistics for the HRSA project, including venues, vendors, budgets, and timelines, to ensure successful and cost-effective delivery. 
  • Develop and implement social media strategies to increase visibility, engagement, and awareness the HRSA project, initiatives, and accomplishments. 
  • Create and distribute high-quality content for newsletters, announcements, and social media platforms; monitor analytics to measure impact and optimize outreach. 
  • Collaborate with internal teams, campus partners, and community organizations to promote events, initiatives, and partnerships that advance HRSA objectives. 
  • Track, evaluate, and report on outreach and communication efforts by collecting metrics and providing leadership with actionable insights for continuous improvement. 
  • Support broader institutional communication efforts by drafting and disseminating stories, highlights, and updates that demonstrate HRSA's community impact.
  • Ensure all outreach activities, events, and communications are completed in a timely, professional manner while maintaining compliance with UNT Health Science Center policies and brand standards. 
  • Other duties assigned.
