Department Summary
The Institute for Translational Research is devoted to bringing novel diagnostics and interventions to patients and families suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, fostering translational research in neurodegenerative diseases at UNTHSC, and Create solutions for a healthier community. Our team spans basic "bench-top" science, clinical research, community-based research and clinical trials. Our translational approach is intended to foster discovery and expedite those discoveries toward the benefit of those suffering from brain disease. A particular emphasis of ITR is the development of personalized (or person-focused) medicine for Alzheimer's disease.
Position Overview
This postdoctoral researcher position will serve in the Institute for Translational Research on specific projects related to epigenetics of aging and disease.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree. If not yet conferred, a letter from the school's official Graduate Office and/or Registrar's Office certifying that all requirements have been met and stating the degree conferral date can be accepted. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
R programming, Linux/Unix-based operations, Microsoft Office suite utilization (Excel, Word, PPT), molecular genetics wetlab methodology (pipetting, DNA/RNA extractions, Infinium-based array processing), written and verbal scientific communication, professional communication.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in a biomedically relevant discipline, with at least 2 years computational/bioinformatics experience and/or training.
Job Duties
- Responsible for lab data processing

- Presentations of progress and key results
- Contribute to manuscripts, writings, articles, editing
- Mentorship oversight PhD/MS level students
- Lab sample processing and advising
- Other supporting duties as needed
Physical Requirements
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
