Department Summary

The research group of Professor Xin Cui at the University of North Texas invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position. The Department of Chemistry offers an engaging environment where undergraduate and graduate students can participate in innovative research and explore emerging areas of chemistry. With mentorship from accomplished faculty, students are encouraged to pursue original ideas, develop research skills, and contribute to meaningful scientific discoveries.

Position Overview

Research in our laboratory focuses on exploring new approaches in catalysis and their applications in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. We are particularly interested in organometallic and bio-inspired strategies to achieve new patterns of selectivity in bond activation and formation, with the goal of enabling practical and environmentally benign syntheses of biologically and pharmaceutically important molecules. The postdoctoral project will involve work in synthetic organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, and homogeneous catalysis, including asymmetric catalysis as a significant component. The postdoctoral scientist will also provide instruction and mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students involved in the research and contribute significantly to the preparation of grant proposals and scientific publications.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field

• Strong background and hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, and catalysis.

• Demonstrated productivity through peer-reviewed publications.

• Excellent written and communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in asymmetric catalysis or chiral synthesis.

• Experience in physical organic study and inorganic synthesis.

• Demonstrated leadership or mentorship experience in a research setting.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties

  • Design and execute research projects in catalysis, synthetic organic chemistry, and organometallic chemistry. 
  • Instruct and mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in research projects. 
  • Contribute to the writing of peer-reviewed publications and research proposals.
  • Manage laboratory operations and ensure safe and effective workflows.
