Department Summary

The Department of Physics is committed to carrying out state-of-the-art research across a number of areas of physics and closely related areas of science and technology. With active research faculty members, graduate students are mentored in research, making substantial contributions and leading projects themselves as they progress towards completion of their degrees. Many opportunities also exist for undergraduate research participation, for example, through senior thesis projects. With these strong student involvements, the Department’s research activities support and compliment student education and professional preparation.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. Position Overview

The Physics Department at the University of North Texas seeks a postdoctoral researcher in spectroscopy and materials synthesize. The research activity will focus on developing and characterizing emerging materials for solar applications. The position will also work on developing novel spectrometers and characterizing materials electrooptical properties in the visible to the Terahertz range. The postdoctoral researcher will closely work with our chemistry and engineering collaborators to measure ultrafastphotoconductivity and to understand the physical origin of these properties. The applicant is expected to train and closely work with graduate and undergraduate students. Contribution to scientific publications and grant applications is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field; research experience in spectroscopy or materials growth and characterization.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with materials synthesize and characterization.  

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties:

  • Conduct experimental research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. e.g. plan, develop, and assemble advanced spectrometers; synthesize and characterize novel materials; initiate and conduct research; gather, analyze, and interpret data; connect with contemporary research activities/publications; document research activity, develop synthesize protocols.
  • Contribute to the mentoring and training of students and junior colleagues.
  • Contribute to grant writing.
  • Disseminate research activity to the research community, resource and funding agencies, and the group and PI in the form of oral presentations, posters, research reports, and manuscripts and publications.
