Department Summary

The UNT Career Center is responsible for the career development and employment of all UNT students and alumni. It has responsibility for all Career Readiness, Coaching, and Education, Student Employment, Internships, and Post-Graduate Employment of UNT students. The Career Center operates as a centralized department with a decentralized approach and sustains collaborative partnerships with academic colleges, student affairs departments, employers, and alumni. Our vision is to empower students and alumni to identify and achieve individual goals for career success. Our mission is to design and deliver high-quality career services to UNT students and alumni through collaboration with campus, local and global partnerships.

Position Overview

The job market is rapidly changing, and students need career guidance, education, and practical experiences to accomplish their goals. Students are in need of better training and coaching to help them make informed and confident decisions and adjust to evolving professional planning, development, and workplace needs. For this position, the Career Center at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Career Coach to join the High School Career Connect and curriculum team with general career coaching responsibilities for pre- and post-college populations. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Lead efforts toward planning and implementing career coaching, education, experiential learning, mentoring, and job search programs and services to students, by working with a variety of students, faculty, and staff in schools (7th-12th grade) and graduates 4-10 years post-graduation. This includes, but is not limited to, individual advising, teaching, peer mentor oversight, curriculum support, programming, group workshops, services, outcomes, and deliver reports to their supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops. Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Ability to communicate and work with the population. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Experience in coaching, counseling, teaching, social work, human services, or related field.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties

  • Providing integrated service delivery, marketing, evaluations, and timely and accurate reporting for participants through collaboration with area schools, college, and relevant stakeholders. 
  • Analyze students career paths, initiate career assessments, provide career education and advice on college readiness, resume development, interview preparation, and offer experiential learning and job search resources for pre-college students and college graduates 4-10 years post-graduation. 
  • Hire, train, supervises and coordinate peer mentors to support mentoring in schools (7th grade - 12th grade) and colleges. 
  • Support career education of students interested in pursuing a variety of majors, minors, and career choices and identifying appropriate internship and job activities. 
  • Develop and conduct workshops, trainings, and seminars, and teach courses on a variety of topics, assess their effectiveness and implement changes needed to engage and enhance student preparedness for career readiness and the workplace. 
  • Develop ongoing relationships with external school personnel and faculty, staff and administration working with a variety of majors. 
  • Track data related to career development, student engagement, and student retention. Analyze and report progress to supervisor and Career Center assessment team. Reports should include evidence of the impact of student engagement with career readiness and measurable impact results. 
  • Provide assistance to other units in the Career Center and perform other duties as assigned for optimal operational success of the Career Center.
