Department Summary
The Institute for Translational Research is devoted to bringing novel diagnostics and interventions to patients and families suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, fostering translational research in neurodegenerative diseases at UNTHSC, and Create solutions for a healthier community. Our team spans basic "bench-top" science, clinical research, community-based research and clinical trials. Our translational approach is intended to foster discovery and expedite those discoveries toward the benefit of those suffering from brain disease. A particular emphasis of ITR is the development of personalized (or person-focused) medicine for Alzheimer's disease.
Position Overview
The Institute of Translational Research at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Research Assistant to join our team. This position will serve as a scheduler for various projects, front desk support and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and skills in using a range of software programs including but not limited to
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), SPSS, STATA.
- Ability to work independently. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively; perform other administrative/clerical tasks.
- Aptitude in general laboratory procedures, techniques, and documentation.
- Willingness to acquire competence in new techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual : Spanish/ English preferred
- Customer service experience
Job Duties
- Scheduler for each component of participant visits: Interview, Neuropsychological Testing, Blood draw, MRI, Medical Exam, Feedback Sessions.
- Contact for imaging center appointments (New/canceling/pending appointments).
- Blood draw: create blood draw entry, complete Quest lab forms for returning participants, escort participants to Quest, deliver blood samples to lab.
- Medical Exams: interpret English to Spanish for Nurse Practitioner when needed and any other duties as needed.
- Check participants into electronic checkin system.
- Front desk support and other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
Environmental Hazards
- No adverse environmental conditions expected.
