Position Overview
The Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance serves as the chief compliance officer for UNT Athletics and provides strategic leadership, oversight, and vision for a comprehensive compliance program within an evolving intercollegiate athletics landscape. This role ensures institutional control and adherence to all applicable NCAA, conference, and university regulations, while proactively adapting to the changing regulatory environment in Division I athletics, including NIL, transfer legislation, and post-settlement athlete benefits models.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in in related field and five years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
• Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience as a compliance director or senior-level compliance administrator at a Division I institution.
• Familiarity with conference-level governance and NCAA working groups.
• Legal background or advanced training in risk management, governance, or higher education administration.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties
- Strategic Leadership & Institutional Control
• Provide oversight of all aspects of the athletics compliance program.
• Serve as the primary authority on NCAA legislation, interpretations, and risk management.
• Lead the department’s strategy for maintaining institutional control in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.
• Advise the Vice President/Director of Athletics, Associate Vice President/COO, and senior leadership on compliance risks, policy decisions, and emerging national trends.
Regulatory Oversight & Governance
• Oversee compliance with all NCAA, conference, and institutional rules, including:
o Eligibility (initial, transfer, continuing)
o Recruiting and amateurism
o Financial aid and benefits
o Playing and practice seasons
• Manage the rules education program for coaches, staff, student-athletes, and campus stakeholders.
• Interpret and apply NCAA legislation in complex and ambiguous scenarios.
Post-Settlement / NIL / Athlete Benefits Strategy
• In partnership with the Associate Vice President/COO and other senior leaders, advise on departmental strategy related to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), including monitoring, education, and policy development.
• In partnership with the Senior Associate AD for NIL and Director of NIL and Revenue Share Operations, ensure all necessary student-athlete and sport program information remains updated in Teamworks, Teamworks GM, and CAPS.
• Oversee compliance considerations tied to evolving athlete compensation/benefit models in the post-House settlement era.
• Ensure alignment with institutional policies, NCAA, and CSC guidance.
• Monitor national developments and proactively adjust institutional strategies.
Enforcement
• Serve as the primary liaison to the NCAA and conference office on enforcement matters.
• Prepare and submit waivers, self-reports, and mitigation strategies.
• Manage risk and ensure timely and transparent communication with institutional leadership.
• Direct all rules violation reviews, investigations, and reporting.
Collaboration & Campus Integration
• Partner closely with:
o Academic Services
o Student-Athlete Development
o Sports Medicine
o Financial Aid
o Admissions and Registrar
o General Counsel
• Serve as a key liaison between athletics and various campus units to ensure compliance alignment.
• Provide leadership in integrating compliance into the broader student-athlete experience.
Technology, Systems & Process Innovation
• Oversee compliance software systems
• Utilize data analytics and monitoring tools to enhance compliance tracking and risk mitigation.
• Continuously evaluate and improve workflows, policies, and procedures.
Staff Leadership & Development
• Supervise and develop compliance staff.
• Foster a proactive, service-oriented compliance culture.
• Promote professional development and continuing education within the unit.

Work Schedule
After hours and evenings required. Occasional travel to championships and athletic events. Occasional travel for continuing education meetings or NCAA or Conference meetings as a representative of the institution.
