Department Summary

We are the Auxiliary Maintenance Team within the Maintenance division of UNT Facilities. Our team performs the routine and preventative maintenance that is vital to the resident and dining experience within our resident halls, dining facilities and many of our Sorority chapter locations. We work in close coordination and cooperation with our partners within the Housing and Auxiliary Services Department to make residence life our number one priority. Auxiliary Maintenance is a culmination of several trades including structural, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and access control. We currently maintain facilities across 15 resident halls, 6 dining facilities and 7 Sorority Houses plus the Center for Sorority-Fraternity Life and the UNT Welcome Center. Our goal is to provide the most reliable, efficient and outstanding service to our residents, who rely on our maintaining their living and dining spaces so they can focus on their education. We take great pride in what we do, and strive for excellence in service daily.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on all equipment associated with the production and distribution of chilled and heating water to buildings on the UNT Denton campuses.

This position also performs all other duties assigned, including building automation troubleshooting, and troubleshooting and/or repair of chilled and heating water end-use devices (AHUs).

This position is also responsible for maintenance on DX units and any related control devices.

The goal of this position is to provide livable/workable interior space for students, faculty, staff, and research.

This position may be assigned to the on call rotation.

May be required to work specific weekend events a few times a year

**This position is considered to be essential personnel, and may require working overtime, which could include nights and weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Five years of experience in maintenance/repair or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices ofgeneral maintenance task; knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance;knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings.
* Ability to use basic shop math applications.
* Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan andexecute necessary repairs.
* Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and toremain outdoors in inclement weather.
* Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications

 

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.

608 Universal Certification.

Job Duties

  • Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, building automation, and upgrades all equipment associated with HVAC in Auxiliary buildings. 
  • Inspects HVAC systems and their components (heating/cooling units, building exhaust fans, ventilations units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance. 
  • Prepares written or digital materials (repair status, activity logs, parts requests, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information. 
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and rectifies problems through the many mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to include electrical motors, compressors, 
  • Performs daily inspections of building mechanical rooms and reports findings. 
  • Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision. Accepts responsibility for own work and follows through on commitments.
