Department Summary

University Centers and Events (UCE) encompasses the University Union, Gateway Center and Coliseum. University Centers and Events (UCE), provides quality programs, services, and facilities that enhance the educational experience and create a community for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. Position Overview

This position is responsible for cleaning and sanitation work within the Union and surrounding outside areas of the building. Duties include vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing and buffing floors; cleaning and dusting furniture and building surfaces; cleaning and sanitizing rest rooms and fixtures; removing trash and application of proper cleaning methods, materials and chemicals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to follow oral and written instructions ability to read and understand labels on chemicals. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to complete tasks (example: measuring and mixing chemicals). Sufficient knowledge of cleaning methods and the proper use of cleaning equipment. Ability to operate vacuum cleaner, floor waxer, floor buffer, and other cleaning equipment. Physical ability to perform work involving standing, stooping, operating cleaning equipment, and lifting of materials and equipment. Ability to recognize and to report maintenance needs in buildings. Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Job Duties:

  • Cleans assigned areas and handles recycling in accordance with established standards, methods, and practices. Cleaning includes but is not limited to, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, garbage disposal, and sanitizing services. Ensures usage instructions/dilution ratio of cleaning chemicals and other custodial products are followed. Exhibits conservation, efficiency, and responsibility in the use of university resources 
  • Manages time efficiently in performance of duties and completes assigned work consistently and accurately with minimal supervision and while remaining flexible with work priorities and adapting to change. 
  • Identifies and solves problems as appropriate; senses when an issue needs a supervisors attention and reports it.
  • Works in harmony with others through active, positive, and courteous interactions with faculty, staff, students, and patrons, and cooperation with coworkers to accomplish work more efficiently and effectively. 
  • Is consistently at work and on time. Gives appropriate advance notice when absence or delay is unavoidable. Plans leave/vacation time cooperatively with supervisor to assure continued service of area. 
  • Serves as a liaison with customers and the university community, ensuring that customer needs are met through operation of facilities for public events, delivering a positive customer experience. 
  • Completes all work using safe work habits and methods to prevent injuries, using equipment properly and in the manner required or directed, keeping all equipment in good working order and following storage procedures, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to your supervisor immediately. 
  • Supports, enforces, complies with, and stays current on university and departmental procedures, mission statement, and commitment to service. 

Physical Requirements:

Communicating with others to exchange information.
Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds.
Operating machinery and/or power tools.
Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Saturdays and Sundays 10am - 6:30pm
