Department Summary

The UNT Dallas Learning Commons offers tutorial assistance in writing and STEM to students who need supplemental academic support.

Position Overview

The Work Study Student Assistant serves as an important team member in the Learning Commons. He/she works under the supervision of the administrative staff and serves as the first point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Work Study Student Assistant also performs some clerical work and assists the professional staff with various projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Must qualify as work-study eligible.
Must be a currently enrolled University of North Texas at Dallas student making satisfactory progress toward completion of a degree program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent customer service skills, as well as effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Some knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Responsible, reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to learn assigned tasks readily, to adhere to prescribed routines, and to develop some skill in the operation of common office equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work 12-19 hours per week
  • Knowledge of (or ability to rapidly assimilate and retain) University academic policy, procedure, and practices
  • Knowledge of FERPA preferred but not required
  • Ability to work under considerable pressure, to adjust to constant changes, to handle multiple tasks, and work with all kinds of students
  • Strong ability to work independently and make decisions within the framework of broad goals and objectives

Job Duties

  • Keep tutoring areas clean, organized, and decorated. Attend and complete mandatory trainings.
  • Work the assigned hours per week unless making prior arrangements with supervisor.
  • Assist in preparing resources and marketing materials for the Learning Commons including handouts, workshops, flyers, website content, social media posts, videos, etc. 
  • Assist administrative staff and professional tutors with special assignments, projects, and events. 
  • Assist administrative staff with inventory management and other clerical work. 
  • Refer students to Learning Commons resources and other academic services and departments as needed. 
  • Direct the daily in-and-out flow of students in the Learning Commons; check students in for tutoring and encourage students to complete a survey after their session. 
  • Assist students in scheduling appointments for the Learning Commons and teach them how to schedule appointments through our online scheduling website.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to Learning Commons emails. 
  • Greet students and serve as the first point of contact for the Learning Commons.

Hours worked depends on Work-study funds. General operating hours are MON-FRI: 9A-10P, SAT 10A-9P

The University of North Texas is a Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The fulltime position of Assistant Director, Academic Services will support student athletes in various sports programs within our athletic department. This position requires consistent and open communication with coaches and staff. Must have a total commitment and adherence to NCAA, Conference USA and institutional regulations. This professional position is part of a team responsible for managing the collection, modeling, and analysis of extensive data, as well as developing analysis and reporting capabilities. The Project Controls Analyst provides routine technical support in the day-to-day management of the construction project management system, which supports construction projects across all UNT System institutions. The position is responsible for maintaining and updating financial data within the system and providing accurate, timely information to support project management and reporting needs. Business Intelligence Analyst

The Business Intelligence Analyst in the Office of University Assessment and Accreditation (UAA) works collaboratively with the campus community with two integrated functions: 1) enterprise dashboard development and data modeling, including the design, construction, and maintenance of reporting solutions, in collaboration with UAA team members, data owners, ITS Data Analytics, data governance stakeholders, and other internal stakeholders. 2) applied artificial intelligence for institutional analytics, including natural language processing of qualitative student and stakeholder feedback, automation of AI-assisted reporting workflows, and evaluation of emerging AI tools for extending the university's data and analytical capacity. This position is responsible for facilitating data accessibility, analyzing institutional cross-functional data and external benchmark and market data, and producing reports and visualizations to support compliance reporting, evidentiary data for assessment and accreditation purposes, strategic initiatives, ad hoc reports, and operational efficiencies. The BI Analyst develops reports and dashboards according to defined business specifications for publication to internal and public audiences, as appropriate. This position analyzes institutional data for patterns in the flow of students through the academic process and programs, as well as the resources that support student success. To maintain data integrity, accuracy, reproducibility, and usability, the BI Analyst documents data definitions, workflow processes, and standard operating procedures and utilizes various quality control methods spanning both traditional data pipelines and AI-generated outputs.
