Department Summary

The Office of Health Professions provides specialized advising and support to students interested in pursuing various health careers.

Position Overview

The academic advisor is responsible for advising and providing professional development, to students interested in health careers. Advises pre-health students on the courses necessary for entry into professional schools, the timeline for applying to such programs, and the characteristics of a competitive application.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong presentation skills; strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn and use a variety of simple to complex computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken, are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficient on Microsoft Word and willing to learn UNT system software needed to perform the required duties.
Ability to work well with other people and interact well with students, professors, and administrators.
Willing to volunteer for various duties such as representing the Health Professions office at community college events, recruitment fairs, Preview Day, etc.

Job Duties

  • Advises students in person, or through e-mail and phone correspondence, on the requirements for health professional schools and the classes necessary for admission; this includes advising students on the transferability of courses, taken at or outside of the university. Advises students on how to develop strong applications to health professional schools. Uses provided advising technology and resources to ensure accurate and timely advisement.
  • Provides professional development for students, which includes conducting mock interviews and reviewing professional school application essays.
  • Assists in the production and dissemination of accurate information for students interested in the health professions.
  • Communicates with various parties, including on campus faculty and representatives at health professional schools and application services, to provide accurate information and opportunities to students.
  • Performs administrative duties in support of programs, events, and related initiatives.
  • Conducts seminars for current and incoming students. Assists with freshmen and transfer orientations by presenting information about health professions. Represents the Office of Health Professions at UNT recruiting events when necessary, which includes UNT’s Preview Day twice a year.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be an effective team member by assisting colleagues when needed.

  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM (On rare occasions evenings and weekends); Eligible for up to two work-from-home days per week after initial training period.

Plumbing Foreman

The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth is seeking to hire a plumbing foreman to join our team. This position is responsible for supervising or performing the installation ,maintenance, and repair of all plumbing systems: including deionized water, reverse osmosis water, lab waste, natural gas, vacuum, domestic water, storm drain, and sanitary sewer systems in accordance with plumbing code and laws observed by Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. The Associate Director, One Stop Contact Center provides leadership for the daily operations of the UNT One Stop Contact Center and helps ensure students and families receive timely, accurate, and supportive service throughout their college journey. The position leads the Senior Coordinators who supervise Contact Center full-time and part-time team members and is responsible for staffing and workforce planning, service levels, queue management, employee performance and development, escalated student concerns, and the overall effectiveness of daily Contact Center operations. The Associate Director uses service trends and performance data to understand where students need support, identify opportunities to improve the experience, and work with One Stop leadership to put strategies, processes, outreach, and service improvements into practice. The position works closely with teams across UNT One Stop and our campus partners to help staff understand the services they support, solve complex situations, and connect students with the right solutions. At its core, this role is responsible for building a Contact Center team that owns the connection, owns the experience, and owns the work, while creating a supportive environment where staff can do their best work for students.
