Department Summary

The Department of Family and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine is a multifaceted, interdisciplinary team of dedicated healthcare providers and researchers who are committed to providing excellence in clinical care, primary care education, and research. Through innovative curricular designs, early clinical experiences, and mentorship, the Department is focused on producing highly competent, caring, and compassionate Family Medicine/OMM physicians, helping reduce the shortage of primary care physicians in our Texas communities.

Position Overview

The Adjunct Assistant/Associate Professor is the faculty member responsible for the development, delivery, and assessment of curriculum content within TCOM’s integrated, medical curriculum. This position contributes to year 1 and year 2 OMM medical education, physical exam and clinical reasoning courses through teaching, curriculum design, assessment, and service in collaboration with course directors, curriculum directors, teaching faculty, and staff. This position also serves in the simulation lab. The expected time commitment is approximately .75 FTE inclusive of teaching and content development. This is a paid hourly position.

Minimum Qualifications

DO or MD, with board certification in the domain being taught.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong foundational knowledge of general and system-based medical education.
  • Ability to teach pathology concepts in an integrated, clinically relevant manner to osteopathic medical students.
  • Skill in developing instructional materials and assessment items aligned with course objectives.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to undergraduate medical education and student success.
  • Experience teaching in the curricular topics assigned.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines to support integrated education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to curriculum development and pre-clinical medical education.
  • Commitment to curricular quality improvement and accreditation standards.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring medical students.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

  • DO or MD, with board certification in the domain being taught.
  • For clinically trained faculty: eligibility for or possession of an unrestricted medical license.

Job Duties

  • Deliver instruction in a variety of topics in year 1 and year 2 medical education through small group sessions, skills labs, and other instructional formats.
  • Participate in OSCE style assessments in various course sections. Participate in admissions committee meetings and student application reviews.
  • Serve as an active participant in course meetings and the Academy of Medical Educators (AME) meetings.

  • Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
  • Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Work Schedule

This position works closely with clinicians, Billing, and other departments to improve documentation quality, ensure complete charge capture, reduce coding-related denials, and support accurate and timely reimbursement. The Coding and Documentation Specialist serves as a resource to clinicians regarding documentation and coding requirements and proactively identifies opportunities to improve documentation, coding accuracy, and revenue cycle performance.

Coding and Documentation Manager

This position is responsible for managing the coding team, coding training, provide audit reviews, and clinician documentation training. This role will help make the clinician practice more successful and make this easier for the clinicians and reduce audit risk.

Office Support Associate

The person in this position is responsible for performing public relations functions as well as delivering great customer service. The customers in this unit are the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management Director, Staff, Chairs, Faculty and External constituencies including internal and external guests that enter the SMHM Director's suite. It is necessary for the person in this position to be flexible in multitasking and changing from task to another quickly. Interruptions of scheduled work may occur; thus, flexibility is necessary to accomplish the work in a timely manner. The person in this position must be able to organize work based on priorities established by the School Director.

Donated Body Transport Supervisor

The Donated Body Transport Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and performance of all transport staff within the Willed Body Program. This role ensures the efficient, professional, and respectful transportation of deceased individuals in accordance with departmental protocols and legal requirements.
