Department Summary

The Department of Biological Sciences, one of four departments in the College of Science, has over 50 faculty, 175 graduate and 3,000 undergraduate students. Our faculty is a community of scholars dedicated to research and teaching in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, Plant Biology, and Organismal environment interactions. We offer Bachelor's degrees in Biology, Biochemistry, Ecology, Medical Laboratory Science, and Forensic Science, and Master's and PhDs in Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Environmental Science. We measure our success by the success of our students and the quality of our intellectual contributions to society.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The Department of Biological Sciences seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Assistant pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for the Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027 semesters. The specific laboratory courses available vary from semester to semester and openings to lead these labs develop on a periodic basis, depending upon department needs, sufficient student enrollment, and dean approval.

Adjunct Assistants lead labs under the direction of an Instructional Lab Supervisor or faculty. Lab courses may include, but are not limited to, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Environmental Science, General Biology, Physical Anthropology & Human Evolution, Parasitology, Immunology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Animal Physiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Forensic (polarized light) Microscopy, and Forensic Molecular Biology.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with 18 hours of advanced coursework in the Biological Sciences (or related area specific to the laboratory course). College-level laboratory instruction experience.*

*Requirements may vary for specialty labs.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the field of study specific to the laboratory course assignment such as Biology, Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Ecology, etc. One year of demonstrated college-level laboratory instruction experience.
