Department Summary

The Department of Technical Communication emphasizes evidence-based approaches to preparing students with the technical communication skills required in modern workplaces: writing, designing, and coding.

We offer graduate and undergraduate degrees and certificates. Courses are taught by an internationally recognized faculty whose research and experience are at the forefront of the field. We also facilitate connections among faculty, students, and practitioners through client-sponsored course projects, internships, regular networking events, and
our industry-led Advisory Board.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Adjunct Assistants support COURSERA courses and a range of undergraduate TECM courses. Please see the UNT catalog.

This posting is for the Fall 2026, Spring 2027 and Summer 2027 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses develop on a periodic basis, depending on department teaching needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Adjunct candidates must have earned an M.A. or Ph.D. from an accredited university.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with graduate-level coursework in professional and technical communication, prior experience teaching technical communication, and industry experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach four courses per semester and to assist in the further development of the UNTD criminal justice program. This 9-month appointment begins September 1, 2026, and ends May 31, 2027. Expectations for non-tenure track faculty include excellence in the areas of teaching and service, resulting in teaching four courses (12 hours) in the fall and spring semesters. This workload expectation can be fulfilled through a combination of teaching and program development or other duties assigned by the department. Faculty are also expected to participate in department and college meetings and fall and spring commencement ceremonies, and other service activities such as curriculum development, online course development, student recruitment, program assessment, and committee leadership.

Event Support Specialist

This position is responsible for assisting with all daily event staging setups and event administrative duties. Set-up configurations may require, but are not limited to, theatre, classroom, runway fashion shows or banquet seating configurations. This position adheres to event space guidelines and procedures as administered by the University Event Manager and campus standards set by the fire marshal. Also responsible for the appearance and high levels of cleanliness of the meeting rooms, event spaces, campus wide settings and staging areas.
