Department Summary

The Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism is an ACEJMC-accredited school with the only professionally accredited journalism master’s program in the four-state region of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arkansas. The school is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, in one of the largest media markets in the country. We offer journalism classes in public relations, advertising, print/digital, broadcast/digital, and photojournalism. The Mayborn enrolls approximately 750 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students. Graduates have won many national and international awards, including Pulitzer Prizes. The school offers students multi-platform professional opportunities including the award winning North Texas Daily student newspaper, Denton Public Access TV, and student-run photography and ad/PR agencies. The school also hosts the annual Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference, the nationally acclaimed conference for aspiring and experienced writers, journalists and authors.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Instructor pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for the Fall 2026, Spring 2027 and Summer 2027 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses develop on a periodic basis, depending on department teaching needs.

The anticipated need is for :

Advertising Technology, Programmatic Advertising, Advertising analytics, Advertising Media Buying and Planning, Influencer Marketing, Ad Management, Ad Copywriting, Ad Art Direction, Research and Campaign Evaluation, Quantitative Methods, Computer Applications for Ad and PR, PR for Non-Profits, Strategic Social Media Sports Media Relations; Public Relations Writing.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field and extensive professional experience in Advertising or Public Relations.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in journalism or related field and three years full-time experience in media and/or college teaching

The Sr Grants & Contracts Accounting Analyst position in the Grants & Contracts Administration unit (Post-Award team) is responsible for administering highly complex research grant awards and budgets to maintain fiscal compliance and to minimize University liability and legal/financial risk campus-wide. The position reviews and sets up highly complex awards, monitors them, prepares invoices, financial reports and performs the award close-out. Prepares documents for requests for information and audits. Interpret sponsor guidelines/stay abreast of federal/state policy changes for 100+ external sponsors with varying legal/financial requirements. Vital campus expert, mitigate risk campus-wide in high-risk areas. Develop/deliver complex campus-wide training, develop and implement internal reporting and analysis tools. Develop policies/internal controls. Manage special projects.

Adjunct Assistant Professor

This position supports the Physician Assistant Studies Program through a combination of teaching, student assessment, admissions participation, and departmental service. The faculty member will assist course directors in delivering high-quality didactic and clinical instruction, evaluating student performance, and grading assignments, examinations, and clinical activities. Responsibilities include teaching and demonstrating clinical skills in classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning environments; delivering lectures and facilitating learning activities as assigned; and providing educational support across multiple courses within the curriculum. The individual will also contribute to student recruitment efforts by participating in applicant interviews and admissions selection processes. In addition, the faculty member will collaborate with program leadership and fellow faculty on a variety of departmental initiatives, accreditation-related activities, committee work, and other program responsibilities as needed. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student success, academic excellence, and the continued growth and development of the Physician Assistant Studies Program.

Faculty Project Coordinator for Mathematics Developmental Education

The Faculty Project Coordinator will serve to administer the Academic Summer Bridge program under the supervision of the Office of the Provost. This employee will have the rank of Lecturer, teach boot camps as a part of the Summer Bridge program during the summer, and teach three courses each fall and spring semester in the Department of Mathematics. In addition, the employee will develop and assess the curriculum for mathematics developmental education.
