Position Overview

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Math Education in the College of Education and Human Development, beginning Spring 2027. UNT Dallas offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of a learner-focused, urban, comprehensive university committed to student success and community engagement.
This is a nine-month tenure-track faculty appointment with the opportunity to serve in an administrative leadership role as Assistant Dean within the College of Education and Human Development, supporting the Dean in advancing the College's mission through strategic planning, academic administration, and faculty and student support.
This academic leadership appointment is for an eleven-month term. The standard faculty teaching load in the College is four (4) courses per semester; the Assistant Dean assignment includes two (2) courses of reassigned time per semester, along with additional administrative compensation, in accordance with university payroll procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in mathematics education, mathematics, curriculum and instruction with a mathematics emphasis, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence in undergraduate mathematics content and/or mathematics methods instruction, including courses required for teacher certification.
- Evidence of an active, established research agenda in mathematics education or a related area.
- Documented experience working effectively with all student populations.
- Evidence of student-centered instruction and effective collaboration within a program or department.
- Evidence of experience in higher education administration.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Mathematics content and pedagogy, including required courses for teacher certification.
- Student learning outcomes aligned with accreditation and certification standards.
- Program review, data analysis, and continuous improvement consistent with SACSCOC and program accreditation requirements.
- Faculty evaluation, promotion, tenure, and development.
- Course scheduling and academic planning processes.
- Student-centered instruction and effective collaboration within a program or department.
- Working effectively with all student populations.
- Advising and mentoring students, supporting retention, progression, and timely completion.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing candidates for state teacher certification in mathematics.
- Record of undergraduate instruction and mentoring.
- Evidence of collaborative grant development and external funding.
- Demonstrated experience in program evaluation, assessment, and data-informed decision making.
- Engagement in college–university or community partnerships.
- Regional, state, or national recognition for scholarship or teaching in mathematics education.
- Certification in EC-8 Mathematics and/or Special Education highly preferred.
Job Duties
- Teaching undergraduate courses in mathematics content and pedagogy, including required courses for teacher certification, within a teaching load adjusted to reflect the reassigned time described above while serving as Assistant Dean.
- Developing, reviewing, and revising education curriculum to sustain and grow program quality and enrollment.
- Maintaining a productive program of scholarship, research, and creative activity in mathematics education.
- Advising and mentoring students, supporting retention, progression, and timely completion.
- Facilitating the development, implementation, and assessment of student learning outcomes aligned with accreditation and certification standards.
- Contributing to program review, data analysis, and continuous improvement consistent with SACSCOC and program accreditation requirements.
- Building relationships with college and community partners to support high-quality field experiences and clinical placements.
- Supporting faculty evaluation, promotion, tenure, and development; overseeing adjunct faculty hiring, evaluation, and retention; and supporting faculty and staff search processes.
- Contributing to strategic planning and academic program development; overseeing course scheduling and academic planning processes, including working with Program Coordinators on class schedules and course offerings; and monitoring enrollment to support resource allocation.
- Overseeing student academic support and resolving complex issues; supporting enrollment, retention, and graduation initiatives; and overseeing assessment and accreditation processes.
- Serving as liaison between the Dean's Office and Program Coordinators, fostering a collaborative and high-performing academic environment, serving on College and University committees as needed, and performing other duties as assigned by the Dean.
