Position Overview
The UNT College of Science invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with a focus on artificial intelligence in biomedical science, to begin September 1, 2027. Applicants should have a record of research accomplishment and compelling ideas for building an independent research program that is focused on the application of AI and computational modeling for studying the function and interactions of biological macromolecules and processes. The research should be grounded in one or more natural science disciplines that exist within COS (biological sciences, chemistry, and physics), and research in highly interdisciplinary directions is encouraged. Possible directions within the broader biomedical research field include drug discovery, biomolecular design, disease diagnosis and treatment, and elucidating mechanisms of disease, among others.
This position is part of a Biomedical Research Cluster Hire which aims to recruit five new faculty members with expertise in health- and cancer-related research—encompassing cancer biology, microbiome research, medical biophysics, and chemical oncology—to the UNT College of Science in Fall 2027. The selected individual will be appointed to one or more academic departments within COS and will interact with researchers across the university, including the BioDiscovery Institute and the Biomedical Engineering Department, contributing to planned growth in interdisciplinary health-related research at UNT. Development of a nationally and internationally visible, externally funded research program is expected. The new faculty member will receive a competitive startup package and will have access to existing computing resources at UNT. Contributions to undergraduate and graduate teaching (typically, one course per long semester) and departmental and university service are expected. Review of applications will begin November 10, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.
