Department Summary

The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation (KHPR) at the University of North Texas has over 1,100 students and offers a bachelor and a master’s degree in Kinesiology and a Ph.D. in Human Performance and Movement Science. Graduate students can specialize in applied physiology, performance psychology, or movement science. The research laboratory supporting this position is the Applied Physiology Laboratory.

The Applied Physiology Laboratory (APL) is a collaborative research facility which includes a large well-equipped biochemistry laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment. In addition, the APL also has separate dedicated and well-equipped research spaces for exercise testing (aerobic and strength), muscle and adipose biopsies, phlebotomy, clinical studies, body composition assessment (DXA and BIA), heat exposure and an array of cardiovascular and autonomic testing The research spaces and major equipment in the APL are shared among KHPR faculty. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation in the College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences at the University of North Texas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology.

We are seeking an innovative scientist whose research falls under the umbrella of exercise physiology, including but not limited to: sport nutrition, dietary supplementation, exercise metabolism, hydration physiology, exercise immunology, molecular aspects of exercise, genetics, optimization of acute and chronic training, tactical/first responder populations, and others. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.

The successful candidate will:

• Develop and sustain a nationally recognized, externally funded research program
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise physiology and related areas.
• Mentor master's and doctoral students while fostering a collaborative research environment.
• Publish high-impact scholarly work and present research at national and international conferences.
• Develop interdisciplinary collaborations across the university and with external partners.
• Contribute to curriculum development, departmental service, and professional service.
• Contribute to departmental, college, university, and professional service.

Preferred Areas of Research

We welcome applicants whose research aligns with exercise physiology, including, but not limited to:

• Sport nutrition
• Dietary, Botanical Compounds, and/or Mineral Supplementation
• Exercise Metabolism
• Pulmonary Physiology
• Environmental Physiology / Hydration Physiology
• Exercise Immunology or Endocrinology
• Molecular Aspects of Exercise Response
• Optimization of Acute and Chronic Training
• Tactical/First Responder Populations

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, Kinesiology, or a closely related field.
• Evidence of a strong and growing research program with significant publication potential.
• Evidence of potential for obtaining external funding opportunities.
• Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching graduate and undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral research experience.
• Record of scholarly publications in high-impact journals.
• Experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate researchers.
• Experience working in an interdisciplinary research environment
• Active membership in professional organizations (i.e., ACSM, NSCA, APS. Etc.)
