Department Summary

The Department of Physical Therapy prepares future movement specialists through an evidence-based and patient-centered curriculum. The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, available in both residential and hybrid pathways, blends foundational sciences, hands-on training, and clinical experiences to develop well-rounded and compassionate providers. Faculty collaborate with local physical therapy professionals to ensure students receive the most relevant and impactful education.

With a low student-to-faculty ratio, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and clinical placements across the state and beyond, the department fosters leadership and innovation in physical therapy. The curriculum supports research and professional development, equipping graduates to improve patient mobility and quality of life.

Position Overview

The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth invites applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank in the residential Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, effective immediately. The primary focus of this position will be to contribute to the department’s teaching mission while supporting research within the residential DPT curriculum.

Responsibilities include teaching in the entry level program, maintaining or collaborating on an active program of scholarship, contributing collegially to departmental research initiatives, and mentoring DPT students in scholarly activities. The faculty member will contribute to teaching in the entry-level DPT curriculum in areas consistent with their expertise. Additional responsibilities include advising students, participating in departmental and university service, and collaborating with faculty to support program operations and accreditation requirements.

The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s commitment to advancing evidence-informed practice, fostering student engagement in research and scholarship, and supporting the mission of the department to develop innovative solutions for a healthier community. The faculty member will also engage in interprofessional education and collaboration with faculty across the university, school, and program.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from a CAPTE-accredited program.
Eligibility for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank based on academic experience and scholarly productivity.
Active physical therapy license in Texas or eligibility to obtain licensure in the state of Texas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated experience or potential in scholarly activity and research productivity.
Evidence of teaching experience or potential in evidence-based practice, foundational sciences, or clinical sciences relevant to physical therapy education.
Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
Active participation in professional activities at the local, state, or national level.
Commitment to maintaining a respectful and supportive learning environment and modeling professionalism in academic and clinical settings.

Preferred Qualifications

Post-professional academic degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc, or equivalent) completed, in progress, or planned.
Board-certified clinical specialist (ABPTS) in a relevant area.
Experience teaching in entry-level DPT programs.
Experience mentoring students in clinical settings.
Experience with innovative instructional strategies, simulation, or interprofessional education.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Licensed to practice in Texas or license to practice in Texas by the time of hire.

Adjunct Assistant Professor

This position supports the Physician Assistant Studies Program through a combination of teaching, student assessment, admissions participation, and departmental service. The faculty member will assist course directors in delivering high-quality didactic and clinical instruction, evaluating student performance, and grading assignments, examinations, and clinical activities. Responsibilities include teaching and demonstrating clinical skills in classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning environments; delivering lectures and facilitating learning activities as assigned; and providing educational support across multiple courses within the curriculum. The individual will also contribute to student recruitment efforts by participating in applicant interviews and admissions selection processes. In addition, the faculty member will collaborate with program leadership and fellow faculty on a variety of departmental initiatives, accreditation-related activities, committee work, and other program responsibilities as needed. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student success, academic excellence, and the continued growth and development of the Physician Assistant Studies Program.

Faculty Project Coordinator for Mathematics Developmental Education

The Faculty Project Coordinator will serve to administer the Academic Summer Bridge program under the supervision of the Office of the Provost. This employee will have the rank of Lecturer, teach boot camps as a part of the Summer Bridge program during the summer, and teach three courses each fall and spring semester in the Department of Mathematics. In addition, the employee will develop and assess the curriculum for mathematics developmental education.

Student Services Coordinator (Center for Academic Performance)

The Writing Coordinator in the Center for Academic Performance is a hybrid position, working both on campus and remotely to aid in the support of students by providing academic writing and presentation support. This position will meet individually with students, both in person and via online meeting platforms, to assess and provide feedback regarding writing skills. They will work closely with other departments and academic programs to integrate writing skills with curriculum. They will provide students with presentations and workshops focused on the enhancement of writing skills.
