Department Summary

The Department of Pharmacology & Neuroscience in the College of Biomedical and Translation Sciences at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNT Health) is a nationally recognized academic and research department dedicated to advancing discoveries in brain health and therapeutic development. The department is committed to preparing learners for impactful careers in biomedical and translational research, education, and healthcare by fostering strategic collaboration and delivering world-class training and research.

The department faculty maintain robust, externally funded programs spanning a broad range of areas, including aging and Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, traumatic brain injury, glaucoma and ocular pharmacology, drug discovery, neurobiology of substance use disorders, and neuropsychopharmacology. Research activities are supported by state-of-the-art facilities, strong interdisciplinary collaborations, and significant federal and foundation funding. The department is also home to the NIH-supported training grant in the Neurobiology of Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease and offers outstanding graduate education through its Pharmacology & Neuroscience and Visual Sciences programs. Students benefit from hands-on research training, advanced coursework, mentorship from accomplished investigators, and professional development opportunities that prepare graduates for successful careers in academia, government, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industry. Faculty teach a variety of topics to other programs such as Medical, Physical Therapy, and Physician’s Assistant, Master of Medical Science, and Doctoral students.

Through a culture of innovation, collaboration, and discovery, the department continues to make significant contributions to understanding disease mechanisms and developing novel strategies to prevent and treat neurological and neurodegenerative disorders.

Position Overview

The Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience is seeking to hire a dynamic, innovative tenure-track Assistant Professor with a background in Pharmacology and/or Neuroscience, with research programs complementing our existing research strengths.
The successful applicant will report to the Chair of the Department and will contribute to the development of the educational, research and service program of the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences. The successful applicant will conduct extramurally funded research and provide instruction and training to students and trainees through teaching in graduate and undergraduate educational programs and mentoring in research. Competitive lab start-up funding is available, and the faculty member will have access to outstanding departmental and institutional facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. degree in Pharmacology or Neuroscience, or related discipline.
Minimum of 3-4 years of postdoctoral experience.
Extensive research experience as evidenced by multiple publications in their current field and current funding.
Experience teaching at the graduate level.
Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Track record of securing extramural funding from federal agencies such as the NIH, foundations, or industry, with experience managing research budgets.
High-impact publications in peer-reviewed research journals.
Capacity to lead an independent research program while mentoring graduate students and postdocs.
Skills in designing courses relating to research and background expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

A track record of scholarly excellence as evidenced by current extramural funding and by peer-reviewed publications in the field of pharmacology or neuroscience.
Research interest lining up with our North Texas Eye Research Institute or the Sensory Research Institute.
Teaching and mentoring experience in a graduate or professional program.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Duties

Teaching and Mentoring of graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, and technical staff undertaking research projects.
Participating in the activities of departmental committees.

Responsibilities include supporting event logistics and registration; identifying and disseminating research funding opportunities; coordinating targeted faculty outreach; preparing and distributing departmental communications; maintaining Research Development web content and resources; monitoring shared email inboxes; assisting with faculty research funding inquiries; and maintaining departmental tracking systems for data reporting.

Donated Body Administrative Associate

This position will serve as the Donated Body Program Administrative Associate and will be handling the mailing and processing of new membership applications, filing of death certificates, and supporting program leadership with other administrative tasks.

Associate Director, Career Services

The Associate Director Career Services is responsible for preparing students for internships within the community and engaging with area employers to stay up to date on the needs of their workforce. This person coaches individual students through process, facilitates group-level workshops such as mock-interviews, networking opportunities, and creation of personal brand artifacts as well as serves as instructor of internship courses for multi-disciplinary programs at the UNT at Frisco campus. Assistant General Counsel

The University of North Texas System Office of General Counsel has an immediate opening for an Assistant General Counsel to join a dedicated team of attorneys and professional staff. The UNT System includes the System Administration, the University of North Texas, the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, and the University of North Texas at Dallas. The UNT System Office of General Counsel includes ten attorneys and seven professional staff located in offices on the institutional campuses and at the UNT System building in downtown Dallas. The Assistant General Counsel will provide legal advice and services to UNT System and its component institutions as a member of the System Office of General Counsel. The primary office location for this position is located on the UNT campus in Denton, Texas. This position also requires as-needed travel to UNT System locations and may include limited hybrid work opportunities as well. This position will manage the public information process. It is estimated that 30%-35% of the workload will be supporting the public information office and providing legal services in connection with the release of public information and responses to records requests. Director, Data Management & Business Intelligence

This technical leadership position directs DAIR data management, data quality, master data management, institutional definitions and data stewardship. The Director oversees analytical data modelling, integration, validation, and business intelligence products that make university information reliable, accessible and usable. The role leads development of dashboards and data visualizations for faculty, institutional reporting and benchmarking, and guides DAIR requirements and quality assurance during modernization of SAS-based analytics to Microsoft Fabric or other approved tools. The Director supervises assigned staff, sets operational priorities, resolves data issues with institutional partners, and contributes to DAIR strategic planning and delivery. Training and user enablement support adoption of these products but are not the primary purpose of the position.
