Department Summary
The Office of Disability Services (ODS) at UNT Dallas plays a vital role in ensuring that students with disabilities have equal access to academic programs, campus resources, and extracurricular activities. This department promotes an inclusive campus environment by removing barriers to learning and participation, while ensuring the university adheres to federal laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. ODS also provides programming to increase campus knowledge of disabilities and services available to individuals with disabilities.
Position Overview
The Disability Services Coordinator assists the Director of Disability in interpreting medical/psychological documentation, determining and providing reasonable accommodations for qualified students with disabilities and creating their Accommodation Letters, thus facilitating equal access to programs, services, and facilities for University of North Texas at Dallas campuses.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in psychology, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field and two (2) years of student services, student affairs, counseling, psychology, or social work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
- Knowledge of Texas and federal rules and regulations related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
- Knowledge of disability laws for Higher Education including Section 504 and 508 of the Rehab Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work under pressure; to adjust to constant changes.
- Ability to maintain complex records; to assemble and organize data of complex nature; and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats.
- Working knowledge of assistive computer technology.
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Strong problem solving skills and critical thinking skills.
- Sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment inclusive of student, staff, and faculty of varying social, economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to create and implement events.
- Skilled in decision making and leadership.
- Experience with accommodation management software system such as Accommodate.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree with two years of experience working with persons with disabilities in an educational setting ; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties
- Works with the Director of Disabilities to manage a caseload of students requiring services through the Office of Disability Services needs.
- Schedule and Proctor exams for those students requiring testing through the Disability Services Office.
- Conducts initial interview and reviews medical/psychological information to determine eligibility and to determine the students accommodation/accessibility.
- Assists with official office communications with all students, faculty and staff.
- Collaborate with other offices in Student Affairs as well as other departments to support students, staff, faculty and the community members with disabilities.
- Be knowledgeable on the Americans with Disability Act, Title 504 and Title 508 of the Rehab Act as they relate to higher education.
- Develop and Provide Disability Awareness training.
- Advocate for students with disabilities.
- Maintain current information on federal and state legislations in regards to disability services.
- Work with the Director of Disability Services to develop and revise policies and procedures for the Disability Services Office.
- Be knowledgeable on the Americans with Disability Act, Title 504 and Title 508 of the Rehab Act as they relate to higher education.
- Arrange for assistive technology for students.
- On a case by case basis, the coordinator will determine appropriate accommodations for student by consultation with student, third party vendors and other staff.
- Ensure that all personal student information is secure.
- Maintain paper/electronic student files.
- Work with the Director of Disability Services to coordinate the implementation of accommodations for students with disabilities according to disability laws (note taking, CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation), sign language interpreting, exam accommodations and other course accommodations.
Physical Requirements

Monday- Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), some evenings and weekends according to programming
