Department Summary

As the most-used service on campus and an essential component of education and research at the University of North Texas, the Libraries offer access to more than 6 million items (print and digital) along with expert personnel to assist patrons in achieving their academic and scholarly goals. We provide innovative programs and support to enhance the relationship between teaching and learning at the University of North Texas.

The Collection Management Division has three departments:  Collection Development, Collection Assessment, and Cataloging and Metadata Services. Serving both internal and external customers, the division provides selection, acquisition, evaluation, cataloging, processing, and collection maintenance services for the collections of the UNT Libraries.

Position Overview

The University Library Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire an Electronic Resources Associate (ERA) to support the activation and maintenance of the libraries’ electronic resources.

The Collection Development Department is responsible for acquiring information resources to support teaching, research, and learning at UNT. The ERA assists the Head of Subscription and Resource Management with overseeing the activation and maintenance of electronic resources. The ERA works directly with vendor representatives and other library staff to identify problems, resolve access errors, and answer inquiries about access and holdings. The ERA also exercises judgment and specialized skills to edit and create proxy stanzas. This position offers significant opportunity for professional growth in an area of increasingly desirable expertise in the library field.

Position responsibilities
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
• Maintain library holdings in online knowledgebase. Add and remove titles of electronic resources to reflect current holdings. Edit URLs and dates to insure current and correct data. Review notices of changes in vendor, platform, and access and make any necessary changes to insure continued access. Maintain administration accounts for electronic resources. Develops and leads projects to improve knowledgebase accuracy.
• Troubleshoot electronic resource problems related to subscription, holdings, and linking issues. Uses specialized skills to identify cause of problems and determine needed steps to correct the issues. Resolves issues quickly and communicates effectively with others affected by the problem. Oversees the error reporting workflow for web-scale discovery service.
• Oversee maintenance and creation of proxy stanzas. Monitor listservs, RSS feeds, and email for updated proxy information. Edit or create proxy stanzas as needed.
• Assists with activation, maintenance, and evaluation of electronic resources. Manages open access materials as requested by students, faculty, and staff. Edits resource records and electronic resource A to Z list as needed. Edits and loads MARC records for ejournals into ILS.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and one year of progressively responsible library experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of library principles and policies, and knowledge of specialized area functions and workflows. Experience in working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Ability to utilize multiple computer applications toward increased productivity in a rapidly changing environment. Strong leadership skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of safe working procedures and security measures related to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
Experience with any of the following:
• Technical writing
• Knowledge of and proficiency in knowledgebase management
• Experience in troubleshooting electronic resources
• Experience with EZproxy stanza creation and editing

Works with Collection Assessment to provide title lists and vendor/platform information 
  • Troubleshoot electronic resource problems related to subscription, holdings, and linking issues. Uses specialized skills to identify cause of problems and determine needed steps to correct the issues. Resolves issues quickly and communicates effectively with others affected by the problem. Oversees the error reporting workflow for webscale discovery service. 
  • Oversee maintenance and creation of proxy stanzas. Monitor listservs, RSS feeds, and email for updated proxy information. Edit or create proxy stanzas as needed. Coordinate proxy stanza updates on server with libraries IT department. 
  • Assists with activation, maintenance, and evaluation of electronic resources. Edits resource records and electronic resource A to Z list as needed. Edits and loads MARC records for ejournals into ILS. Communicates with Cataloging and Metadata Services unit to request MARC records for selected resources. Communicates activations and updates with other library staff as needed. 
  • Communicates regularly regarding progress on and completion of work, and prioritizes work appropriately by consulting with supervisor. Monitors and acts on official communications. Collaborates effectively, courteously, and professionally. Maintains effective working relationships with internal and external constituents by producing communications which are professional, timely, and in accordance with departmental guidelines. Participates in training opportunities to maintain skills as needed for the position.
