Position Overview

The Retail Food Service Specialist is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and supporting the daily operations of campus food service outlets. This role involves assisting in food and beverage preparation, maintaining cleanliness and organization, managing inventory, and ensuring food safety and quality standards are consistently met. The Food Service Specialist interacts directly with students, faculty, and staff to create a positive dining experience while ensuring smooth and efficient service in the food service area. This position requires great customer service, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to the dynamic needs of a busy campus environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of general work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to maintain records and complete forms accurately. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to complete tasks (example: collecting cash and making change). Knowledge of the care and use of food service equipment and kitchen utensils. Knowledge of health hazards in food preparation and service and necessary precautionary measures. Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:

• Support food preparation and presentation, ensuring all items meet established quality and safety standards. Continuously monitor the freshness and quality of food to maintain consistent excellence.
• Ensure cleanliness and organization in all food service areas, including kitchens, dining spaces, and storage areas. Follow proper food handling, storage, and disposal procedures to comply with health and safety regulations.
• Deliver outstanding customer service by warmly greeting and assisting customers, answering questions, and promptly addressing any concerns. Maintain a positive, professional demeanor in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment. Adhere to all university policies, health codes, and safety standards at all times.
