Position Overview
The Grants & Contracts Specialist works on the Grants & Contracts Administration - Pre-Award team within the Division of Research & Innovation. This position is responsible for interpreting sponsor guidelines and submitting proposal applications for external funding to over 100 different sponsoring agencies with varying legal and financial requirements. Acts as liaison for University and responsible for remaining current on issues in the field of research administration. Responsible for review and setup of awards and nonfinancial award administration. Assists with training campus personnel. A telework option may be available with an approved UNT System Flexible Work Agreement (FWA).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, Higher Education or related field and one year experience in grant/contract administration; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High level math/accounting skills, strong reading comprehension skills, ability to interpret guidelines and instructions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and customer service.
Job Duties
- Interpret sponsor guidelines and submit proposals on behalf of the University to external sponsors with varying legal and financial requirements. Review proposals and budgets to ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines, applicable regulations and University policies. Attention to detail and accuracy are key factors.
- Reviews award terms and conditions for acceptance, ensures research compliance issues are addressed, facilitates sponsor changes to awards based on regulatory or funding changes, reviews and revises budgets, sets up new awards, facilitates project closeouts, assists in audits and award transfers. Attention to detail and accuracy are key factors.
- Offers positive engaging assistance to Principal Investigators, other faculty, researchers, and staff campuswide with proposal application processes and internal electronic systems. Fosters mutual respect.
- Demonstrates good decision making abilities. Resolves simple issues independently; refers more complex issues to higher levels. Facilitates problem resolution to reduce conflict and establish smooth working relationships.
- Participates in special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Acts as liaison between sponsors, faculty, and staff. Addresses internal and external communications between the PI, departments, college and external sponsors. Communicates timely responses to questions and request for information and provide frequent status updates.
- Responsible for being remaining current in the field of research administration. Pursues professional development opportunities by attending training, conferences and participating in webinars. Also provides pre award training to faculty and other campus personnel.
