Department Summary

The Department of Political Science and International Studies at UNT is a highly productive department with 31 faculty members who are committed to excellence in both teaching and research. This includes two faculty lines that are devoted to the International Studies program. The department offers BA, MA, and PhD degrees.

The International Studies program offers BA and MA degrees. Faculty in the department have previously edited the American Political Science Review, International Studies Quarterly, and Journal of Political Science Education.

The department also houses the Castleberry Peace Institute, the Peace Studies Program, and the International Studies Program.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The faculty member will be expected to teach PSCI 2305 - US Political Behavior and Policy and PSCI 2306 - US and Texas Constitutions and Institutions classes which are our core undergraduate American politics courses. The faculty member will also teach courses related to political theory. The faculty member will also contribute to developing our Civic Education and Civil Discourse program which focuses on training local high school teachers in teaching civic and communication skills and assist with our pre-law program.

The typical teaching load is 4/4 with a teaching release for service to the department (i.e. a 3/3 load with service requirement).

The anticipated start date for this position is January 2027.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. (or ABD) in Political Science (or related field). Ideal candidates will be those who are well grounded in the history of political philosophy and focuses on the great themes and issues of political thought: justice, liberty, morality, religion and its relation to politics and human nature.

Meets the performance expectations related to the workload outlined in UNT Policy 06.005.

Serves as a key strategic and administrative support and partner for the Chair. Operates as both an internal and external liaison for the department and is responsible for ensuring seamless, transparent, effective operations, clarity of information, and facilitates and monitors the administration of the department. Manages operating unit, including financial reconciliation, tracking, and reporting, and assists with the preparation and management of department budget. The Executive Director provides leadership and oversight for revenue cycle operations, patient financial services, electronic health record operations, and related business applications. This position drives financial performance, reimbursement, regulatory compliance, technology optimization, and improvements in the patient financial experience. The role collaborates with clinical, operational, finance, compliance, and technology leaders to establish performance standards, lead process improvement initiatives, manage vendor relationships, and support the long-term goals of the Clinical Practice Group. This position serves as a member of the Clinical Practice Leadership Team and reports to the Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer.
