About Us - Values Overview:
Department Summary
The Department of English is one of the largest academic departments at UNT with over fifty full-time faculty members. We strive to promote a greater understanding of literature and culture; to add to literary tradition by fostering new works of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction; to innovate in writing instruction; and to investigate the history of persuasive writing. English houses the University's First-Year Writing program, which serves about 7,000 students per year, and it boasts a vibrant creative writing program, including the robust Visiting Writers Series, the annual Rilke Prize in Poetry, and American Literary Review, along with the larger literary scene in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that offers the Dallas Literary Festival hosted by the Dallas Public Library, the Dallas Museum of Art's Arts & Letters Series, as well as readings and events at independent bookstores such as Interabang Books, The Wild Detectives, and Deep Vellum.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
