Department Summary
The University of North Texas (UNT) Student Health and Wellness Center is a full-service medical center offering all UNT students general wellness and specialty medical care. We are staffed with licensed physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified lab technologists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, licensed nurses, and medical assistants.
Position Overview
The Patient Access Specialist will perform clerical duties, drawing on specific knowledge of medical terminology and clinic or laboratory procedures. Duties may include scheduling appointments, billing patients, appointment check-in and check-out, answering phones, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Excellent customer service and strong communication skills.
* Demonstrates basic skills and knowledge of the position.

Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties
- Interview patients to complete documents, case histories, and registration.
- Prepare clinic schedules and verify patient insurance eligibility.
- Answer phones, direct calls, and route messages or lab results to staff.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments, procedures, and consultations.
- Maintain medical records, files, and correspondence. Compile and scan medical charts or reports.
- Perform clerical tasks like mailing patient letters and managing supply inventory.
- Greet visitors, determine their purpose, and direct them appropriately.
- Check patients in and out.
- Transmit correspondence and medical records via mail, email, or fax.
- Review clinic schedules for accuracy and assist in training new front desk staff.
- Operate office equipment and software to prepare reports, invoices, and medical records.
- Support ongoing department needs for financial statements and case histories.
