As the clinical practice group of UNTHSC Fort Worth, we provide comprehensive primary and multispecialty care. Our reach extends across Fort Worth, Denton, and Dallas, delivering expert care through our clinics, in-home visits, hospitals, and long-term care facilities.
We utilize interprofessional teams, where physicians, advanced practice practitioners, therapists, pharmacists, and specialized staff work collaboratively.
We intentionally integrate healthcare students, residents, and fellows into care delivery at select practice locations, fostering the development of future health professionals while optimizing patient care delivery.
Position Overview
The UNT Health Clinical Practice Group, Patient Safety & Quality Administrator, provides strategic and operational leadership for patient safety, clinical risk management, and Patient Safety Organization (PSO) functions. The position oversees professional liability insurance administration, claims management, patient safety event systems, regulatory reporting, and safety improvement initiatives across the clinical enterprise.
This role serves as the primary institutional resource for patient safety and risk mitigation, collaborating with executive leadership, clinical departments, legal counsel, insurers, and external partners. The position manages programs, systems, contracts, and designated budgets but does not directly supervise staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in a healthcare related field, six (6) years of progressive experience in healthcare risk management, patient safety, quality improvement, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Detailed knowledge of patient safety science, quality improvement, and change management.
- Expertise in Just Culture and High-Reliability Organization HRO principles.
- Ability to craft professional communication, spoken and written, to a wide range of audiences with the intent to maximize education retention.
- Advanced knowledge of patient safety science, risk mitigation strategies, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of professional liability insurance structures and claims processes.
- Ability to analyze complex clinical and legal risk data and translate findings into actionable strategies.
- Strong facilitation, presentation, and education skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Job Duties
- Patient Safety Organization (PSO) Administration
- Direct operational oversight and development of SaferCare Patient Safety Organization (PSO).
- Administer and maintain the event reporting and management platform, including vendor coordination and system optimization.
- Provide member onboarding, training, support, and trend analysis.
- Support serious event review and reporting processes.
- Develop outreach strategies and partnerships to expand PSO engagement and membership.
- Manage related contracts and service agreements.
- Clinical Risk Management & Professional Liability
- Administer and manage professional liability insurance policies in coordination with brokers and carriers.
- Oversee claims management processes, including early event management strategies.
- Prepare and submit required statutory and regulatory reports.
- Monitor and analyze internal and external claims trends, case law, statutes, and regulatory changes.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation and claim prevention strategies.
- Provide consultation to leadership and clinical managers regarding patient complaints and risk exposure.
- Collaborate with legal counsel and insurance partners to mitigate institutional liability.
- Patient Safety & Event Oversight
- Direct administration of the clinical practice’s patient safety event reporting system.
- Facilitate case reviews, root cause analyses (RCA), and improvement initiatives.
- Promote and sustain Just Culture and High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles.
- Support peer review processes in collaboration with medical and nursing leadership.
- Provide routine safety reporting and trend analysis to executive and clinical leadership..
- Education & Quality Improvement
- Develop and deliver patient safety and quality improvement education for clinicians, students, and affiliated partners.
- Serve as institutional subject matter expert for patient safety initiatives.
- Develop continuing education materials and patient safety resources.
- Identify emerging safety risks and training needs; design responsive programming.
- Provide consultation related to safety benchmarking initiatives (e.g., Leapfrog participation, safety score improvement).
- Institutional & External Engagement
- Represent the organization in local, state, and national safety collaborations and committees.
- Present at conferences and professional events.
- Support interprofessional education and institutional safety initiatives.
