Position Overview
A postdoctoral position is available in the Kent Chapman Laboratory (in the UNT BioDiscovery Institute) to reconstruct fungal natural product pathways into plant systems. This project is a collaboration with the Liz Skellam and Ana Alonso laboratories as well as the UNT Economic Research Center led by Mike Carroll.
The postdoctoral candidate will be expected to perform cloning and expression experiments to support metabolite production and purification from plant leaves, and to optimize this process for greenhouse production of medically-relevant chemicals. The project is currently funded by a grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation; the initial appointment will be for one year with an option to continue for up to two years depending upon satisfactory progress and continued availability of funds.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate in plant science, biochemistry, biology, or related field.
- At least three years of experience in the field of plant biochemistry and/or metabolism with publications demonstrating the active contribution of the candidate to this field of study.
- Prior experience with molecular cloning, microscopy and plant biochemistry techniques is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior Experience Highly Desired:
- Prior experience with metabolic engineering, metabolic pathway and enzyme elucidation, and production of metabolites in plant and/or microbial platforms is highly desired.
- Strong scientific writing and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
