Department Summary

The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNT Health) invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Genetics.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished scientist and academic leader to guide one of UNT Health's most collaborative and research-intensive departments at a time of remarkable institutional momentum. As UNT Health continues to invest in biomedical discovery, translational science, simulation, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the next Chair will play a central role in advancing research, developing faculty, preparing future scientists, and shaping the department's long-term strategic direction.

Position Overview

The Reynolds Lab at UNT Health is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to study the genomics of aging and Alzheimer's disease. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead work on designing epigenetic clocks and methylation risk scores across diverse populations, perform EWAS to identify methylation signatures of Alzheimer’s risk, and contribute to multi-omic analyses aimed at understanding molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration as part of a collaborative team. They will also contribute to writing proposals and papers, while helping to maintain laboratory equipment, and may contribute to the training and supervision of students or any other assigned individuals. Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree. If not yet conferred, a letter from the school's official Graduate Office and/or Registrar's Office certifying that all requirements have been met and stating the degree conferral date can be accepted. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Execute analysis independently, collect data and maintain reproducible notes and workflows, and keep up to date with the most recent literature in the field of study.
  • Write manuscripts and prepare materials for scientific presentations.
  • Presentation of project results to internal and external parties.
  • Performs statistical analyses, including selecting the appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity and reliability of data, designing and writing programs to perform analyses, and producing written reports on the result of the analyses.
  • Write research results for publication (i.e. Clearly summarize data for analysis, prepare needed figures for publication and participate in preparing revisions of manuscripts).
  • Provide knowledge and help with analysis as requested by graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience processing large genomic and/or methylation array datasets.
  • Experience designing and implementing polygenic risk scores (PRS) or methylation risk scores (MRS.)
  • Experience with genome-wide (GWAS) or epigenome-wide (EWAS) association studies.
  • Experience applying machine-learning approaches to biological data analysis.
  • Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language (e.g. R or Python.)
  • Proficiency in a UNIX-based high-performance computing environment.
  • Experience with workflow automation and reproducible analysis using Snakemake, Nextflow, or similar platforms.

Job Duties

  • Design of scientific studies using existing genomic datasets.
  • Conduct computational and statistical analysis on human genomic datasets.
  • Coordinate multi-level scientific teams as part of ongoing internal, national, and international collaborations.
  • Manage regulatory (e.g. IRB) and budgetary aspects of a scientific research project.
  • Contribute to grant proposals, preparing manuscripts and presentations and present to scientific, professional, and community audiences and stakeholders.
  • Manage and mentor students and trainees. Stay current with emerging trends and scientific literature in human genomics.

The Associate Director, One Stop Contact Center provides leadership for the daily operations of the UNT One Stop Contact Center and helps ensure students and families receive timely, accurate, and supportive service throughout their college journey. The position leads the Senior Coordinators who supervise Contact Center full-time and part-time team members and is responsible for staffing and workforce planning, service levels, queue management, employee performance and development, escalated student concerns, and the overall effectiveness of daily Contact Center operations. The Associate Director uses service trends and performance data to understand where students need support, identify opportunities to improve the experience, and work with One Stop leadership to put strategies, processes, outreach, and service improvements into practice.
