Department Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of North Texas (UNT) is a vibrant and expanding part of the College of Engineering, currently recognized as the second-largest department within the college. Position Overview

The combination of machine learning and advanced manufacturing offers the potential to model and predict the performance of high-performance materials used in defense applications. Online monitoring of additive manufacturing requires a deep understanding of process conditions and microstructural evolution, which can be modeled through machine learning methods to comprehend the material's performance during experimental testing.

We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning modeling, particularly in applications relevant to online monitoring of additive manufacturing processes and experimental assessment via mechanical testing. A secondary focus is on process monitoring, applying state-of-the-art sensing technologies and self-developed algorithms.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, and other fields that explore Artificial Intelligence applications.
• Strong programming skills (e.g., Python )
• Strong machine learning skills applicable to manufacturing processes

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to perform experiments and data analysis.
• Demonstrated strong experience in writing scientific publications and technical reports.
• Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties:

  • Perform computer simulation, perform experiment design and testing. 
  • Writing project reports, and grant proposals. 
  • Supervise and collaborate with graduate students in the lab. 
  • Publish Journal and Conference papers.
