Department Summary
There are twenty-five full-time faculty and two adjunct faculty members in the department; they have diverse research interests spanning molecular genetics, cellular immunology, microbiology, cancer and health disparities. Our research mission is supported by more than $9 million in federal grant funding. We foster a highly collaborative and collegial environment in which the faculty, trainees, and staff work together to advance innovative, cutting-edge scientific discovery related to human health. The department provides high quality training for students interested in careers in biomedical research or medicine. The goals of our graduate program are (1) to provide a broad and sound education in microbiology, immunology and genetics of human disease and (2) to provide rigorous research training in an environment dedicated to advancing biomedical science. The department has numerous trainees including postdoctoral fellows, students earning DO/PhD, PhD and MS degrees. The trainees and faculty in the department are a cohesive group from diverse backgrounds which fosters scientific innovation and discovery. We support graduate training programs in genetics; cell biology, immunology and microbiology; and biochemistry and cancer biology. Our faculty and trainees also take full advantage of the tremendous breadth of expertise and knowledge across UNTHSC.
Position Overview
The lab focuses on pluripotent stem cells and role of BET proteins in inflammation and other diseases. We use a wide range of technologies including molecular biology, cell biology, conditional KO mouse models, computational biology, genetics, and others to study the molecular mechanisms of cellular reprogramming and inflammation. Experiences and skills in cell culture, mouse models, molecular biology, stem cell biology, and immunology are highly valued. The scientist will design and conduct experiments with minimum supervision, analyze data, report the research to PI, prepare manuscript, and participate in other lab research projects. He/she also runs the lab routine.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and skills in using a range of software programs including but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), SPSS, STATA.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to perform administrative/clerical tasks.
- Aptitude in general laboratory procedures, techniques, and documentation.
- Ability to acquire competence in new techniques.

Experience in cell culture, molecular biology, animal models.

Job Duties:
- Design and conduct biomedical experiments in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, epigenetics, inflammation, and animal studies as guided by the PI.
- Maintain experimental records. Analyze the experimental data. Report research to PI.
- Carry out lab routines such as reagent preparation, lab organizing, receiving, purchasing, and others.
- Support in multiple lab research projects and assist in writing manuscripts.
