Position Overview
The laboratory of Dr. Rohan Balakrishnan in the Biological Sciences Department at the University of North Texas is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist. The applicant will study protein homeostasis in microorganisms. More specifically, the candidate will perform biochemical characterization of protein synthesis and degradation to investigate how microbes cope with stresses. The applicant is expected to:
• Design and perform experiments.
• Publish results and present findings at conferences.
• Apply for extramural funding as a PI or Co-PI.
• Train graduate students and undergrads in Microbiology lab work.
• The ability to work within a team is highly desirable.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate in Biochemistry or Microbiology.
At least three years of experience in the field of microbiology, biochemistry, microbial metabolism, with publications demonstrating the active contribution of the candidate to these fields. Expertise in the following approaches is required: molecular cloning in fungi and bacteria, classical biochemistry, genetic screening in fungi and bacteria, confocal microscopy, quantitative biology.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong scientific writing and communication skills are highly desired, including excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Must have demonstrable experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in a research lab.
