Department Summary

The Special Education Program is housed in the Department of Educational Psychology in the College of Education at UNT. The Department of Educational Psychology currently houses three programs: Special Education, Human Development & Family Science, and Educational Psychology. The Special Education program has various offerings: a PhD where students can specialize within that major; four concentrations within the MEd in Special Education, specifically High Incidence Disabilities, Autism, Bilingual Special Education, and Educational Diagnostician; and an undergraduate EC-12 certificate that is connected to our EC-6 Teacher Education program in the College of Education.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The Department invites applications for an appointment at the Senior Lecturer rank to begin Fall 2027. The position is for an applicant with expertise in Special Education. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the continued development and success of the department by supporting the special education program through teaching, collaboration, and mentoring of students. This role will include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in traditional and online formats and potentially at satellite locations. The successful candidate will be expected to have excellent teaching skills, help with program development and expansion, and serve on committees and other relevant service activities within the department and college.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Special Education. Doctorates in a closely related field will be considered as long as the clear purpose of the degree is special education.

ABD candidates will be considered as long as the doctorate is successfully defended prior to the start date.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a record of high-quality teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and graduate level.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching undergraduate special education courses certified by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Preference will be given to TEA SPED certified candidates.
