Position Overview
To support the G. Brint Ryan College of Business by providing academic counseling, career counseling, referrals and degree program advising to undergraduate business majors and prospective business majors in individual and group sessions. This includes involvement in implementation of programs designed to recruit new students, increase student retention and participation in general degree advising activities as needed (preparation of degree plans, evaluation of transcripts, processing graduation applications and public relations).
This position will be based at UNT’s regional campus located in Frisco, Texas. UNT at Frisco supports over 20 undergraduate and graduate degrees and more than 3,100 students. This position is a hybrid position officing at the Frisco campus, Denton campus with some remote days.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree and two years' of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, professional academic advising, or related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
- Current knowledge of student development and counseling theory.
- Strong presentation, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong counseling skills including career development and group facilitation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to work independently. Remains active in professional development.

Job Duties:
- Maintains effective knowledge and use of advising approaches for implementation in individual advising sessions and in construction and implementation of advising programs.
- Advises prospective and current students regarding University and degree requirements, as well as career/major choices, in a timely and professional manner.
- Develops and assesses retention initiatives to increase student persistence and graduation rates.
- Effectively coordinates and leads specified undergraduate orientation activities for the College.
- Manages processes and programs designed for students exploring RCOB degree options.
- Efficiently, accurately and thoroughly maintains and updates student degree plans and other records, including graduation applications, using university and advising technology.
- Demonstrate commitment and ability to support a diverse group of individuals within the academic community.
- Demonstrates high level of professionalism within office, College, University and community.
- Complete miscellaneous projects and tasks as requested by supervisor. Directors, Assistant Dean and/or Associate Dean may also assign tasks as appropriate.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm; may include some evenings and weekends
