Department Summary

The Division of Music History, Theory, and Ethnomusicology is a vibrant contributor to the College of Music, the University of North Texas, and the surrounding community. We maintain a full range of academic programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Our Ph.D. is more than fifty years old and was the first doctoral program established at the University of North Texas. Today more than sixty students are enrolled in our graduate programs. As a hub of academic and musical activity, our division fosters a wide range of projects and initiatives. Our faculty members have been recognized with significant awards for outstanding teaching, research, and service.

Position Overview

The Department of Music History, Theory, and Ethnomusicology seeks qualified individuals for its adjunct Instructor pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for the Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses depend on the department’s teaching needs.

This year, teaching needs may include: MUMH 1610, MUMH 2040, MUMH 2050, MUMH 5010, MUMH 5500, MUMH 5510, MUMH 3000, MUMH 3010, MUMH 4050, MUMH 4670 and MUMH 4770 which adjuncts have taught recently. In addition, the teaching may include MUEN 2621/5621.504 (Chinese Ensemble).

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in a music-related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree in music-related discipline and relevant experience in assigned courses.
