The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) at the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) is committed to expanding access to higher education by providing comprehensive financial aid services to students and families. Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Financial Aid provides senior level leadership and operational oversight within the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. This role manages assigned functional areas, supervises staff, and supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of financial aid programs in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. The Assistant Director makes independent operational decisions, supports office wide initiatives, and facilitates the effective use of the Financial Aid Management System (PeopleSoft Campus Solutions). Reporting to the Director and/or Associate Director, this position plays a key role in ensuring efficient workflows, accurate reporting, staff development, and high quality student service
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and four years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of applicable federal and state financial aid laws and regulations.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to plan and direct large-scale projects and assignments.
- Thorough understanding of university organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
- Expertise in information management systems, specifically student financial aid systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong supervisory and team leadership skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across departments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of progressively responsible experience within a college or university Financial Aid Office
- Experience delivering presentations and training in both small and large group settings
- Demonstrated ability in data reporting, analysis, and interpretation
- Strong customer service experience across multiple settings, with a student centered approach
- NAFSAA Credential(s) in any subject area
- Experience with PeopleSoft and ImageNow/Perceptive Content systems is strongly preferred.
Job Duties
- Provides leadership and oversight for multiple assigned teams and functional areas, including managing workflows, setting priorities, and ensuring coordination across departmental units.
- Oversees the daily operations of financial aid programs, ensuring effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders and adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations.
- Leads departmental training and retraining efforts for federal and state financial aid programs to ensure staff readiness, regulatory compliance, and operational consistency.
- Assists the Director and Associate Director in the development, review, and implementation of policies and procedures, contributing to continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
- Oversees department wide customer service operations and serves as the escalation point for complex or sensitive student and stakeholder concerns.
- Monitors, collects, and analyzes program and performance data, identifies trends and operational challenges, and provides data driven recommendations to department leadership. (10%)
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director and/or Associate Director.
