Department Summary
The Department of Population and Community Health (PCH) is one of two academic units in the College of Public Health (CPH) at The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). Programs offered by PCH include MPH in four concentrations (Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Data Science, Maternal & Child Health, and Public Health Leadership). We also offer MS in Public Health Sciences and a PhD program in two concentrations: Health Behavior, and Epidemiology. Faculty scholarly endeavors represent a broad spectrum of topics and types. Collectively, our teaching, scholarly and service endeavors align with the new strategic plan of the School of Public Health – IMPACT 2030. The new strategic plan aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the U.S. Healthy People 2030 plan, and HSC’s Whole Health initiative, reflecting our commitment to transformative education, engaged scholarship, social accountability, a community-centered approach and global relevance.
Position Overview
The College of Public Health (CPH) at The University of North Texas Health Science Center (HSC) seeks applications to fill a part-time assistant professor non-tenure track faculty in the Department of Population & Community Health. This 12-month, promotion-track appointment has a primary focus on Environmental and One Health focused teaching, service and community-engaged scholarship, and is in alignment with the college’s strategic plan. One Health approach to public health encompasses a wholistic framework that integrates human, environmental and animal health toward improving the public’s health. The ideal candidate should have an earned doctorate in a One Health field (e.g., veterinary medicine, environmental health, public health), with experience in graduate-level instruction on these topics.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in One Health-related discipline (e.g., veterinary medicine, environmental health, public health).
- Proven graduate-level teaching experience.
- Strong commitment to evidence-based teaching practices and student success.

Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from accredited university, and a graduate public health degree (MPH, DrPH or PhD or similar).
- Evidence of experience working in government / public-facing organizations with health-related responsibilities
- Evidence of collaborative and community-engaged education and out reach.
- Evidence of teaching excellence and exceptional communication skills.
- Evidence of course development experience.

Job Duties:
- Develop and deliver graduate-level One Health curricula in public health emphasizing MPH competencies within One Health principles. This includes (but not limited to):
- Create graduate certificate in One Health
- Update course materials, syllabi, and assessments to ensure curriculum relevance and alignment with the latest academic and/or industry trends
- Mentor students and early career public health professionals through advising and consultation on projects and career development
- Collaborate with other CPH units to expand student practice opportunities to include One Health relevant experiences (e.g., veterinary practices, environmental health units)
- Provide service and/or leadership in the College of Public Health and HSC.
- Stay current with emerging trends and challenges in One Health related public health practice, teaching and service.
- Participate in relevant professional organizations and networks to maintain a strong presence to help improve student recruitment and outcomes and CPH reputation.
- Collaborate with CPH and HSC colleagues and external academic and community partners to develop vibrant research teams and nurture an inclusive, interdisciplinary collaborative environment.
