Department Summary

The Department of Internal Medicine & Geriatrics at the University of North Texas Health - Fort Worth is committed to advancing the field of geriatrics through interdisciplinary education, innovative care models, and community engagement. The department oversees interprofessional learning experiences designed to prepare students to meet the needs of older adults across diverse care settings.

Position Overview

UNT Health, the academic clinical practice for the University of North Texas Health Science Center, is seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary clinical team. This position will support collaborative clinical partnerships to expand access and continuity of behavioral health services across the community.


The Psychiatrist will provide outpatient and consultative psychiatric care within an integrated, team-based model, contributing to the mission of improving mental health outcomes while advancing academic excellence. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical care, a commitment to education, and a collaborative spirit consistent with the values of UNT Health and TCOM.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency program.
  • Eligible for or holds a Texas medical license.
  • Board eligible or board certified in Psychiatry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis & treatment modalities.
  • Ability to develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Commitment to mentoring students and residents in a teaching-clinical environment.
  • Ability to manage documentation and clinical records in an EMR system accurately and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, compassion, and teamwork in diverse healthcare settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board Certified
  • Experience providing care in both academic and community settings.
  • Familiarity with integrated behavioral health models and interprofessional care.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas or eligibility to obtain one.
  • DEA certification for prescribing controlled substances.

Job Duties

  • Provide direct psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients through UNT Health Clinical Practice Group, including medication management and psychotherapy as appropriate.
  • Provide psychiatric services to JPS Employee Health Clinic as part of the interagency collaboration, ensuring continuity of care and documentation compliance.
  • Teach, mentor, and supervise medical students and residents within the TCOM and UNT Health framework.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and quality improvement initiatives. Other duties as assigned.

Adjunct Assistant Professor
This position supports the Physician Assistant Studies Program through a combination of teaching, student assessment, admissions participation, and departmental service. The faculty member will assist course directors in delivering high-quality didactic and clinical instruction, evaluating student performance, and grading assignments, examinations, and clinical activities. Responsibilities include teaching and demonstrating clinical skills in classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning environments; delivering lectures and facilitating learning activities as assigned; and providing educational support across multiple courses within the curriculum. The individual will also contribute to student recruitment efforts by participating in applicant interviews and admissions selection processes. Faculty Project Coordinator for Mathematics Developmental Education
The Faculty Project Coordinator will serve to administer the Academic Summer Bridge program under the supervision of the Office of the Provost. This employee will have the rank of Lecturer, teach boot camps as a part of the Summer Bridge program during the summer, and teach three courses each fall and spring semester in the Department of Mathematics. In addition, the employee will develop and assess the curriculum for mathematics developmental education.

The Writing Coordinator in the Center for Academic Performance is a hybrid position, working both on campus and remotely to aid in the support of students by providing academic writing and presentation support. This position will meet individually with students, both in person and via online meeting platforms, to assess and provide feedback regarding writing skills.
